What's the scoop on taking unpaid leave at Nova?

Can taking a leave compromise the opportunity to start another contract with them? I want to take a two month leave but a little hesistant to go ahead and pursue it. I don't hate my job and I certainly don't have anything against NOVA. Tell me what you think.

You can not take any leave with the company until you have worked there at least 6 months and you can only take the time off stated in the contract which I believe is up to ten days.

My guess is NOVA will say no. There have been cases of people wanting to go home for weddings etc back home and the company saying no, so I think to them asking for two months off will be an unreasonable request.
If you quit your job to take time off you will still have a visa but you have the problem of finding another job for the remainder of your work visa.

If you dont hate them why do you need two months off? You signed a year-long contract didn't you?

If I may ask, why do you need the leave?

I have known people who have taken unpaid leave within their first six months and after their probation period. In fact, it happens quite often, but we're talking a day or two and in one case up to a week.

At any time, they allow for up to a 30-day leave for a family emergency - they call it "compassionate leave". This can be extended if necessary.

As said, if you are in your first 6 months and are looking for a break to head off to Thailand or something it likely won't happen. If you are in your last 6 months, they will make you take any unused vacation time before unpaid time and then you still might be pushing it for 2 months.

If your reason can wait and you are nearing your contract renewal, many people I know renew their contracts and opt for a later starting date on the new contract and effectively take a break between contracts.

As always with Nova, your reason, scheduling at your branch, and the whim of some paper pusher will carry a lot of weight.
