The following email called off the dogs without so much as a whimper. Only the names have been changed to protect the identities of the "innocent".

Dear XXXXX,
Just found out from XXX on the telephone about this mandatory inspection of our home for SARS because we are foreignors. What is going on XXXXX?

Who is coming?
What branch of the government do they work for?
Who specifically ordered the inspections?
What are the inspection team's medical/scientific qualifications and training?
What will they specifically be inspecting?
What types of samples will they take?
What tests are they going to perform?
When will we be notified of the results?
Are all foreignors homes being tested or just in Liaoning?
Are all Chinese people's homes being inspected as well?
Will there be only one inspection or will this become part of a routine?
What are our legal rights of refusal?
Who is the government point of contact, name and phone number please?

I want these questions answered before anyone comes into our home so I may contact the US consulate in Shenyang for their advice on the matter.
Thank you,
XXXXX

Feel free to use this as a template if the need should arise.
Additionally on the same issue a Chinese associate of mine wrote the following to me in his email when I expressed my dismay over the current state of affairs. I left it unaltered as he wrote it.

""I am very sorry to hear that and understand you feeling now.But you don,t know China about the law, human right and comstoms. Because China is a "special socialism" .""

Now it's all becoming clear to me doctor... "resistance is futile"... "is there anybody in there? just nod if you can hear me"...

I once saw a cartoon about 'chaste maidens' and it was some women being 'chased' by 'lich'erous men. Kind of like bars in China frequented by foreigners.

Which brings me to a quote by Shakespeare: 'First we will take their maidenheads, then we will take their maiden heads!'

SO I wonder if that is where Leonard Cohen found inspiration for--First WE Take Manhattan Then we take Berlin.. Almost rhymes.
