Has anyone heard of the Sarasas Witaed Bangbon school in Bangkok?
My husband and I would like to teach in Thailand, and they've offered 35,000 with housing and all the usual perks.
Please let me know if you can provide any info on their reputation, conditions, students profile, etc. Thanks! |

I believe that saying it's in Bangkok would be a mistake, but perhaps I'm confusing it with another school. All the "usual perks" you mentioned are actually very rare in Thailand and the 35,000B salary is above par as well. My girlfriend's talked about a school with a similar sounding name (hard to know if it's the exact same place due to tones and odd Romanizations) and salary package -- I'm guessing it's the same place -- a highly reguarded high school clear out in bumbleturd nowhere (Bangbon). The fact that accomodation is provided only allys this suspicion -- schools in Bangkok proper never do so.
By the way, if you're not in Thailand you basically don't have a prayer of landing work here. At least not until the end of October when the Thais are desperate to make up for their hiring screw ups. If you're both qalified you should be able to each find a 30,000 B job with similar schedules ONCE you're in Bangkok already. |

Hi there:
You've probably already found these, but just in case ...
http://www.sws.ac.th/eng/history.html
http://www.sarasasbangbon.com/
http://www.swb.ac.th/ (this one's mostly in Thai)
Sarasas is a chain of schools, by the way, with roughly 14 schools in and around Bangkok, 6 of which are bilingual. Most of the schools are managed by relatives of the founder, Mr. Piboon Yongkamol. (i.e., they are a private, family-run business)
From what I've heard, the happiest teachers at Sarasas are the ones teaching the younger kids.
Thai teens can sometimes be ... um ... er ... apathetic & unattentive? Trust me; if you have a choice, teach the babies.
I did some research on them last year while I was toying with the idea of teaching in Thailand. At that time, I was considering a serious offer from the Sarasas Romklao Road branch, but then discovered that they expected me to teach math. Yikes! I still add and subtract using my fingers and toes, so I had to rule them out.
If you search www.google.com you'll find the usual mix of positive and negative comments.
Speaking of location, this should help: http://www.sarasasbangbon.com/location.htm
Good luck!
~

Hello,
All you really have to do is just search the forum using the Keyword: Sarasas. It will return whatever has been said about the schools.
If you are too lazy to do that then here is a link

Hope it helps |

Thank you for your reply, but we have obviously taken all normal search routes to find general info on Sarasas. We are simply asking for personal knowledge of a particular school from individuals which is the expressed purpose of this website. |

If you're so well informed about the school why did you say it was in Bangkok? Your first post doesn't exacatly reek of research, and if I were you I'd be rather pleased with the amount of info you've recieved about one fairly obscure school somewhere in Thailand, including hagakuri's post. |

I hate to butt in here again, but I think Amy might have taken offense
to the "if you are too lazy ..." portion of hagakuri's post.
I can understand that.
C'mon people -
let's play nicely together!

Yes -- I taught there for a year, it's fine.
Actually, it's nothing overly special, but a decent place to work. Laid back, lots of vacation, big campus.
The area is hard to get used to at first - (yes it is in Bangkok, so the person who claimed you didn't do your research because you thought it was in Bangkok must have read something wrong. Bangbon is just a district on the outskirts of the city, that's all.) - but once you get your bearings and learn how to time traffic going past the school it doesn't interfere with your life so much.
PM me if you want more details.
Cheers,
Waddy |
