Try the British Council. A useful source for any country is the good old yellow pages: http://www.iranyellowpages.net/en/ |

The British Council in Tehran says they do not offer English courses and so have no need for English teachers. I didn't know the BC did much more than that, but you learn something new all the time! |

Barmadu,
I went to Iran two summers ago. The travel agent I used is Iranian and very knowledgeable. Maybe he will be able to help you. www.darwantour.com
I teach in Iowa and a typical looking Iowan, fair, and was treated with nothing but respect by everyone I met. It was a wonderful experience, and a wonderful country.
Hope that helps! |

Sedighe,
Thats pretty awesome, man. Not to mention very consistant with what I hear about Iran. I would love to go there, it probably interests me more than any other place in the world with the exception of my traveling base, Latin America. Did you learn any Farsi?
If anyone around here has first hand info regarding Iran let me know. I'm very interested.
Regards,

VA,
I did start to learn some of the language, but have not been studying recently. I've spent the summer kayaking instead of studying.
The people I met and talked with in Iran wanted to speak English with me. They were very excited to learn where I was from and wanted me to have a wonderful experience. Several people asked that I let people know that Iran is not a dangerous, scary place to visit like the media portrays.
I would recommend you go. My personal love was the history. Persepolis was my favorite, and I talked my tour guide into taking me twice. The museums are wonderful, though I spent more time out at sites. Necrepolis is also breath taking. Isfahan is like a dream. One day I would love to return, but first I have to save for a trip to Kenya.
Contact me if you want more details. I dont want to be a bore.

I like your signature quote, btw.
Ya, my girlfriend is from Iran, so I'm kind of partial. All of the info that you give me here I assure you will not bore me. I love to soak up other people's stories of travel.
Did you receive ANY harrassment for your nationality at all? I mean, I know that Persians are very hospitible but they are also brainwashed by a theocratic government into believing that the US is the Devil. I hate politics, and I can understand if people have problems w/ the US govt., I just want to be treated normally as an individual with respect. No different from anyone else. I have heard enough bad stories about France that I would never want to go and spend my money there, in Brasil you get a few people that hate you for your nationality, but they are few and far in between. My Brazilian girlfriend never cared for US Foreign Policy, and made her opinions known to me, however she like more Brasilians are capable of distinguishing between a government, and the people of a nation.
How hard did you find Farsi to learn? Do you think that there are any possibilities to work in Iran as an American? Thanks in advance, and have a fun time in Kenya. |
