The organizers of the third Peace as a Global Language III (PGLIII) are
pleased to announce that this year's conference will be held at the
Kyoto Museum for World Peace, Ritsumeikan University. The conference
aims to bring together educators, students, activists and NGOs to
discuss issues related to global studies and peace.
This year? program includes an enormous variety of discussions,
activities, workshops and other sessions. We hope that the conference
will encourage people to become active in some way toward the
development of a more equitable and peaceful society.
CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
THE SILENT KILLERS: The Global Issue of Landmines and UXOs
(Saturday, September 25, 6.30 8.00pm)

of Tsukuba, Japan.

WOMEN AS PEACEMAKERS
(Friday, September 24, 5.00 ? 6.00pm)
- Dr. Joyce Silva, professor of English, Head of the Languages Dept at
Independent University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
- May Shigenobu ? daughter of former Japanese Red Army Leader, Fusako
Shigenobu, media commentator, and lecturer in Middle Eastern Affairs.
HUNGER BANQUET
(Friday, September 24, 6.30 ? 8.00pm)
A meal where some of the participants get large servings of food, while
most get inadequate portions, reflecting the food inequality prevailing
in the world today. Proceeds of the hunger banquet will go to Oxfam.
Special Guest speaker: Martha Kuwee Kumsa, Ethiopian Journalist,
activist, and lecturer in Social Work at Laurier University in Canada.

PANEL DISCUSSIONS
Global Issues, Education and Environment, Religious Conflict in South
Asia, Peace Education, Human Rights, Peace and Security, Educational
Issues, Spiritual Values, Gender, Cultural Diversity and Conflict,
Partnership panel: Environmental problem solving between government,
science, technology and society
WORKSHOPS & POSTER PRESENTATIONS
This year's conference features more than 100 different workshops and
poster presentations. Topics range from factory farming to problems
facing Australian Aboriginals, from conflict analysis to the effects of
international tourism.
