Hi all,
Some may have followed my story...
Anyway - after a lot of running around and knockbacks I have at last been offered a job at a school that will sponsor my visa.
Problem is I only have 2 weeks left on my tourist visa.
The paperwork will go in to immigration tomorrow or Wednesday.
I understand it takes about a month before I will get the first piece of paperwork back. (sometimes longer)
So - I need some way to stay in Japan while I wait.
Simply overstaying is obviously not an option.
My boss says it may be possible to get a letter from immigration allowing me to stay and wait for the form. But I have never heard of this happening. Anybody else done this?
Another option is to leave and return and have another 90 day tourist visa.
I'm especially keen to hear form people who've done this and what happened to them.
Is it hard to re-enter Japan after only a few days? Won't it look suspicious?
I had a pretty tiresome time the first time entering Japan.
If I do go abroad and come back - what is the best way to do it - how long to stay away and what would be a plausible explanation to give immigration?
Thanks in advance for all any help people can give me.

Bumped.
I'll only bump this once because if people don't know they don't know -
But I would appreciate some input from anyone with experience of doing this.

Just go to immigration and ask for an extension of your tourist visa. You can honestly claim the reason is that you are waiting for a work visa. |
