Hey,
Has anyone heard of, or been placed with, the AMIC ENGLISH CENTER. They claim to have quite a few schools. I am a first time English teach, or at least hope to be, and have just finished uni. My only concern is that they'll drop me as soon as they find someone more qualified, as there contract seems to have a lot of precautionary language in it in terms of having the right to dismiss the contractee at will.
Also, given 25 teaching hours, and 40 total working hours a week, is 260 000 yen/month a reasonable salary? Is it enough to get by/save up? Any help would be useful, I would attach/paste a copy of the contract but somehow I am not sure if that would be good edicate.
Cheers,

Just so you kniw, an employer can not fire you at will , unless you punch your boss, set fire to building or sleep with their son/daughter.
Employers must give one months notice or a months salary in lieu of notice. Foreigners working here have rights too, you know.
Probably not a good idea to post the contract here as there are spies on these boards and the boss may pull the job offer. PM me if you want me to have a look at it. 260,000 is about standard for a 40-hour week. Thats what he has to offer you to sponsor a work visa. How much you save depends on your lifestyle, rent how often you go out, whether you car carrying any debt or loans. You can live on it but you won't get rich on an AMIC conversation school salary. Plain vanilla entry-level salary, if you ask me.
PS any talk about fines for lateness or being sick etc? Thats usually a red flag on a contract. |

Gabbo: Any Conversation school can dismiss you as long as they give the month's notice or the pay in lieu. Japanese companies seem to like attempting to cover their backs by making it clear that they reserve this right. That's standard. 260 000 yen is also standard. How much will your rent be? If they stake the time to sponser you through the visa process then they will want to keep you, not replace you early. |
