I just started working for a University in Shanghai. I was wondering who is responsible for paying for the Medical Exam me or the University?
Appreciate your input.
Is there a document on the internet that indicates who pays?
Thanks gang!! |

The normal case calls for your employer to foot all relevant hiring expenses - in the case of a foreign jobholder, this includes his or her visa and medical examination in China. |

It depends entirely on your contract.
The "Contract issued and printed by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (Copies are invalid)" which 'my' university uses (with their own addendum attached) makes no reference as to who pays.
I have always been suspicious of job ads that say "assistance given with obtaining health certificate & F.R.P.", instead of 'Z' visa and F.R.P. provided. |

There is no rule or standard. I have noticed that organizations who are hiring from overseas and in-country will stipulate that they will pay for both. Others that are looking for people in-country will either pay for both or get you to pay. Organizations that have a history of hiring runners (gee, I wonder why they have such bad luck?) tend to make you pay for everything.
As a side note, if I pay for verything, I keep the receipts and I insure that the Foreign Experts Certificate is in my possession. If the company pays, I only demand (when required to demand) possession of the Residence Permit AND I insist on a multiple re-entry visa in my passport. |

By the way I am working for a State University.
What is the usual procedure.
If anyone knows about a web site I would greatly appreciate it.
Again thanks. |

Check out:-
www.speedbusiness.com.cn
Then go to expatriate affairs. I don't have exactly for teachers but it gives you the Z visa proceedure and medical exam etc. |
