I'm heading off to take a TEFL course and start working abroad. I've never worked outside my home country before. I hear you have to get a work visa from an embassy BEFORE you enter the country in which you want to work? Is this really the case, and are there exceptions? How do you get around this, or can't you? It seems pretty darn inconvenient and expensive, if you're already there.

What do you mean by 'it depends on where you go'? She has said quite clearly in typical Canadian fashion where she is going, namely, "abroad".

In some cases, you can change a tourist visa to a work visa while you're there. In other cases, you can do a border run to either get your visa or get a new stamp in your passport so that you can buy more time.
