How is singling out our favorite posters and least favorite avatars going to contribute to a more positive environment?

Spidey,
It's funny because when I read your post I get that Spiderman voice and I don't even know what that sounds like seeing as how I was a little kid when I last saw it, yet I still sort of remember. He talks like all knowing and calming and also kind of fast, doesn't he?
You said you watch. Are those the old catoons and do they still play that? |

I saw once in an interview with Katherine Hepburn...
____________________________________________________________
Interviewer: What's your secret to living such a long and prosperous life, Mrs. Hepburn?
Mrs. H: Chcocolate. Plain and simple. I eat about a pound a day.
____________________________________________________________
Now, if I remember correctly, she was being honest in her response to the question. And also, if I remember correctly, Katherine Hepburn was a slim and very fit individual.
So, worry not, mate. |

Because what you say matters--when you write inflammatory comments about people, they will respond. Why do you always act so surprised after the fact?
Personally, I think the people on this board--especially the old-timers--are quite helpful and very generous with their time. Paul, Glenski, Gordon, etc.--they go out of their way to provide advice and good links. And yes, sometimes the information provided is not good news--e.g., the need for a 4-year degree and the hiring realities at Japan's universities. But those are the realities here--wouldn't you want to know this before you came?
Some people seem to forget that the people writing in with advice/suggestions are not being compensated for their time and efforts. The so-called old-timers--all of whom seem pretty successful to me, by the way--are not required to respond to requests for help from people in trouble. That they choose to respond needs to be appreciated--don't bite the hand that feeds you! |

this may be only directed at me, you sometimes need to, I don't know....you must know what I'm trying to say |
After dealing with many of your posts and getting a headache trying to decipher what you just wrote above this quote, I can only hold back on the (negative) sarcasm and say...no, I don't know. |

wow, some response. and this was just a general posting about attitudes, not even directed at anyone...and i didn't even say i was eluding to this site. i actually like this site. i've been on way worse site and better sites, and this one is one of the better ones. so i find it interesting how people respond and their interest in debate. i can handle personal attacks so if anyone feels the need to vent or rant on me, go ahead, no worries. i take it with a grain of salt. I can tell the difference between helpful critics and rants. i just think people (in general not anyone specific, lol) should try to smile more...makes your day way better!
oh spiderman.....u rock! Chocolate all the way!!!! |

And I'm really sick of ppl continuously quoting other ppl's posts & then biatch about it. I've been attacked so many times it's not even funny. I just didn't say anything back & either kindly apologize or move on to other posts. I'm not here to have an argument with other fellow teachers, why do they like picking up a fight? Very immature.
Does angry ppl has to do anything with age? If some ppl here taught Eng for like over 20 years, I can't imagine how old they are. Perhaps there are generation gaps in our communication. I'm not discriminating anyone, I'm cool with talking to anyone from anywhere & any age. I have friends who are either way younger or older than me. If you're wondering how old I am, I'm 24.
|
Eleckid, I don't know who you are, but I like you.
I also am 24 and began using the web at 16. I completely agree with your posts, and think that people wouldn't be so mean to us if they saw how cute we were.
Yes, there are some pples on this board who are young, sweet, and cute, and we don't deserve to be treated this way.
I've noticed the angry ppl thing does tend to go with age, too, in real life, at home and in Japan. I'm not sure what to do about it, and it makes me terrified of aging and becoming that way Eleckid, but I guess it's better than the alternative huh?
If I come back to Japan when I'm old, or stay at home, I hope the young guns will slap me silly if I cop an attitude like that.
That, and I plan on drinking a shot of gin and bourbon every night, to burn off the aggression.
I will be different.
I will be the coolest 60-year-old EVER.
Now, ya'll, I have to go, as I don't really frequent the web that much. I bet you don't either, Eleckid.
Ciao!
