I've looked into the Big 4 companies and it seems that ECC looks like a fairly good one, and one that I haven't heard as many bad things about. Now I haven't done as much research into the others, but I think I've ruled out NOVA.
Basically, my situation stands as a recent university graduate who is very much interested in experiencing life abroad again (and in a much different culture this time around), though I do need to pay off atleast $300 USD a month of school loans. I like ECC's work week, but I'm confused about their housing. They can help you find it, it seems, but they do so through some company called Inter--something, and they seem to rip people off. Is this a fair assessment? I'm not quite sure how the whole thing works...how do you go about finding an apartment yourself if you don't go through their company?
Since I have made no real decisions (and don't have to for a bit, I think) I am open to the possibilities of the other two (not NOVA) and what they offer. I've done a fair amount of looking around on these boards and would be interested in anyone who said NOT to go with ECC for whatever reason.
On another note, I've looked into Sapporo and am interested in it as a possibility, though I've heard ECC only goes through Osaka, Tokyo and Nagoya. Is this true? I'd be interested in learning more about opportunities in Sapporo.
When you go through these companies, is there any way you get to definitely choose where you go? I have never lived in a warm climate and do not tolerate the heat very well and would prefer a choice if possible. I've heard Japan's climate differs greatly and would be much more comfortable in a colder (or not sweltering hot) environment.
Also, if you don't go through one of the Big 4 companies, and go through the smaller ones, how do you go about finding which ones exist, are reputable, and do they pay you a comparable amount?
A lot of questions and a lot in the future!
Thanks for any feedback,

Key money and all that other stuff may make you really broke so unless you are coming into Japan with enough money to pay this off, I suggest you go with their apartments, then move out when you start making some money.
They told me you wouldn't be able to save until after the first 3 months.
They give you the option to move out but it depends on where you are living. I think the shortest time is within 3 months, longest being 6.
Yes it's true, they have offices in those areas. I recall them saying Kinki, Kansai and I don't recall the other one.
I hope that helps! I chose to go with ECC! |

There is only one source exclusive to Hokkaido, and it's worth the 5000 yen subscription price. Hokkaido Insider, by Ken Hartmann. Tell him Glenski sent you.

No, you go where they have the vacancies in their branch offices. They claim they will do their best to go along with your requests, but in the final analysis, it is a business operation, and you go where they need you. Some places will let you transfer after a few months.

Read these web sites for the ads. Whether they are reputable or not, is hard to say, but you can usually trust them. If you have any suspicions or bad feelings, post your queries here, and perhaps people will be able to tell you about the place.
