Hello to all, My girl friend finally helped me get logged on.... I do use a computer ... but sometimes it uses me. I have read many comments on this forum and I am warmed by the knowledge that there is a lot of communication between TOFL folks in Mex.
I have always dreamed of living in Mexico and I have the time now to do it. It wont be a make or break situation but I must do it on a low budget. And I was happily suprised when I came across the need for English teachers: finding that I can actually work while I am down there is the difference of going now or waiting until I retire.
I took a lot of Spanish in college but we all know how that works: I foregot it with disuse. There are Spanish speakers in abundance all over the South but they mostly want to speak English, and when I speak Spanish to them they just laugh. I expect that in a short time I will learn enough to get around...
... So I am saving up to buy Dave's book and looking foreward to adventuring in Mexico but in the mean time I am curious about a few things.
One thing : can I drive my old car down, or more importantly can I drive it back... Down here in the Third World part of the US we do not have vehicle inspections, so I do not know if a 1983 toyota will meet the standards to cross back into the USA.
Another thing: I have only a B.A. degree and no teaching credentiles so are there schools down there that will hire me. I have read, in this forum, about one ot two schools that don't require the foriegn language certificates but knowing a few more will be better. Thank you if you reply.

Somebody's got to say it, so I guess I will. Ask your girlfriend to help you post this one on the Mexico Forum.
Don't worry too much about your computer using you. Computers are like that sometimes.
If you do a search here on Dave's using Mexico and driving and cars or something similar, you'll come up with several previous threads addressing your questions about taking your car from the U.S. into Mexico and back again.
Just a suggestion, when you start posting several questions on the Mexico Forum here on Dave's, try to limit the questions per post to a particular topic. In other words, try to divide your questions into different posts by specific topic rather than lumping them all together into one post. It makes it easier for people to respond to them.
Welcome aboard! |
