Well Ishihara is just an old man serving his interests only. The only thing I have to contend is how does this article show any pederism on his part? Pederism is according to the dictionary an older man who likes having anal intercourse with (usually) little boys. All that article says is that he thinks that an age limit should be imposed on sexual intercourse in general. Kind of like the statutory rape laws in some parts of the US. |

No no no.
You've all read the article wrong.
He is against making it illegal for an underage student to have sex with another underage student.
There is nothing "pederastical" about it.... |

Basically I'm with you on this one Mary Jane. It's amazing how the older people get the more they want to pontificate about the dangers of juvenile sexuality. One could almost believe that they are jealous about all the fun they're missing ...
According to the article quoted by the OP: "Teenagers at junior high and high school in Tokyo have been responsible for rapidly escalating rates of abortion and sexually transmitted diseases in recent years"
And there was me believing all that I read about how the escalation in STD rates was all down to foreigners? But at least it's still nothing to do with the native 'adult' Japanese. That's a relief.

Ishihara says: "Of course, we don't think it's a very good thing to have junior high school children running around having sex. "
These seem to be in line with each other.
Then he says, "I think it's going a bit far to say we should create an ordinance to outlaw sex for junior high school children,"
Well, what would you have had him say? In my opinion, some laws only make people find ways to break them. And, as Ishihara put it, "in the end, sex is a very private matter and, despite our responsibilities, it's not really an area we should be encroaching on."
If you really want Ishihara to tackle the above problems, see what he says about improving sex education in schools, about handing out condoms to students, about improving the abortion system in Japan, etc. |

The big problem in Japan is not sex between jr high students, it is between jr high girls prostituting themselves to middle age men for money to buy designer goods. That is a whole new kettle of fish than some kids fooling around in the back of a car. |

I stink you are a little up tight about sex aren't you! Ever think about talking to a swink about your sexual problems.
I had sex when I was in junior high and turned out fine. |
Come again?
I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing with the guy. Just a point of clarification.
For the record, I too had sex when I was in junior high, and I turned out fine as well.
And so did I also. |

Hey Teacher! Leave them kids alone!
Why don't we (presumably old enough to be Jetskis or EFL teachers) leave the *beep* alone and let the JHS screw whoever the *beep* they want. It aint our business. |

What I got out of it was that Mr Pissyhara wants to keep it legal for his supporters - mostly dirty old men - to have sex with underage girls. Or at least have fewer statutes that inhibit it, such as the underage prostitution laws. |

That's because you read it wrong.
He says that "we shouldn't make laws designed to stop teenagers from having sex with other teenagers".
Read it again, perhaps? |

Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara has voiced his opposition to suggestions made in a metropolitan government panel that children below junior high school age be banned from having sex.
"I think it's going a bit far to say we should create an ordinance to outlaw sex for junior high school children," Ishihara said on Friday.
The governor later added: "Of course, we don't think it's a very good thing to have junior high school children running around having sex. Tokyo wants to make sure it gives them every chance to have a wholesome upbringing, but in the end, sex is a very private matter and, despite our responsibilities, it's not really an area we should be encroaching on."
Ishihara was responding to a suggestion made by the panel the local government set up to discuss countermeasures to problems being caused by rampant teenage sex in the capital.
Teenagers at junior high and high school in Tokyo have been responsible for rapidly escalating rates of abortion and sexually transmitted diseases in recent years. (Mainichi Shimbun, Sept. 26, 2004)
Nowhere does it specify he's against sex only between teenagers. The old perv wants to keep access open for his buddies. |

True, so true. How about simple education and some parenting from... gasp... the parents? Most parents think it's the school's job to raide their children, and the school (rightly so) thinks it's the parent's job. Noone is teaching Japanese children the value of a healthy sexual relationship. |
