Pattern practice is when you are teaching a particular grammar drill e.g. verbs and you insert different words into the sentence to practice the 'pattern' or drill.
e.g.
shop
I went to the shop
hospital
I went to the hospital
Correct use of 2nd, 3rd person verbs etc (I go, he goes etc)
Students use different forms till they understand how to use the grammatical function.
It tends to be used with lower level students as you are essentially spoonfeediing them language and they just have to plug in the correct phrase or word.
Also, don't you also mean 'prospective employers'? |

ya, lol, perhaps, I should also have said no english experience. I'll blame this on my previous sales job, kept me talking more than writing and reading. thx for the post, that makes sense, pattern, like a modular sentence...variables, I dig it. already inspires me to think of some cool ways to present it. thx.

Don't feel bad. There are so many ways to describe the same techniques, it can be confusing. The Brits call it one thing, the Americans another.
Since the employer knew you didn't have any teaching experience, he/she should have known you wouldn't know the answer to the question. |
