What if this SARS situation here is so extensive that foreign teachers cannot return home this summer? Is this possible? I think this is a concern that we all have. I want to return to the states this summer, but also I want to come back to my college here in China for yet again another year. (I've been here almost three years already, and I haven't been back to the states in a year and half.) I must be nuts. Shocked

If I can leave China this summer and return home, I don't want to be prevented from coming back here to begin teaching in the fall. Yeah, I know no one knows the answer really to this question, and all one can do is make speculations, but still I thought I would voice it just to get it off my conscience even briefly. Rolling Eyes

I have the same concern and heard the same rumours of airports frozen.
...
For me it's FIVE years and i meant to go home last year and failed and this year it's GOTTA be.
...
My reply is that here is a selection of songs you could sing:
1. Whatever will be will be. (Que sera sera ).
2. Whistle a Happy tune (The King and I)
3. Leaving on a Jet Plane (Artist?...).
...
As for myself, i'll go with my standard three ounces of Mijiu and a glass of coke.
Give me a wake up call June 30th.

Wasn't it John Denver?

There's some concern on the getting home front here to. A few teachers from our town are leaving now, just to make sure they can get home. They're also planning to put themselves into voluntary quarantine (I feel that's a little excessive since we have no confirmed, suspected nor even rumoured cases - but they're worried about the flights).

Students not allowed off campus for the last 3 weeks. Their most recent rumour is that no one will be allowed out for the summer holiday. I think that would have to be my worst nightmare.

I just got an e-mail today from my college telling the foreign experts that Shenyang has announced that:
"On returning to China: NOW the government requires the foreigners to have a physical examination while arriving in SY airport or train station, then quarantine at home for 12 days, after that a second examination will be held before work. It can't be so hard, although complicated."

The American Consulate here has told us that America is not quarantining anyone based on where they traveled from and has no plans to do so.
