Could you elaborate on the converters and plugs? |
Indonesian plugs are usually two round pegs with no ground. They use 220 Volts, 50 Hz.
So yes, you will need a converter for the plug pins and a convertor for the voltage. |

Everything having been said, I hope you've got the info you were looking for. Welcome to Indo. When you get the chance, come take a trip up to North Sumatera. It's quite a different experience from Java... or from other parts of sumatera, for that matter. It's an amazing country with lots to offer. You can be rest assured that regardless of what experiences you get out of it, you won't have made the wrong choice to come. |

over optimistic!!!!! Well to tell you truth I worked at a language school for 2 years. I got paid about 2 and a half million rupiah a month! I was happy. The school was professional and it's still an excellent language school and a great experience. I'm now teaching at a national plus school and getting far less money than an international school, but far more than a language school. It's a great school, easier working load than the language school, and the students are fantastic. Why not be optimistic when things are so good!
The fact is that even we have problems getting staff here. Yes the wages are at least double that of language schools, but our school actively seeks qualified and experienced teachers(though unqualified teachers have worked here). My point is that there are plenty of jobs. Some like to rubbish the language schools because some teachers spend most of their time showing videos and doing computer lessons and games, others come to work drunk, etc, but the school I worked at and the teachers I met were professional. Language schools are a great expereince.
If you are interested in ESL as a career here, then I am optimistic because there are plenty of jobs teaching at national plus schools.
The people who do not agree with the information I have posted seem to be language teachers, who have not researched, nor even heard about national plus schools. The people who have private messaged me are interested teachers who are keen to try.
Bedevilled, I get all the love I want from my wonderful wife. Let me ask you if you are prepared to marry the person you sleep with?

* Sekolah Ciputra, Surabaya, Indonesia www.ciputra-sby.sch.id has a
vacancy which will commence in January 2005 in the Middle Primary area.
The school is authorized in the IB www.ibo.org. The position is working
within the IB PYP curriculum framework. The expat teacher works across
the 4 classes at the year level, generally working within the program of
enquiry (holistic, integrated approach, although Maths and English,
shared by the Indonesian and expatriate teacher at the year level, are
sometimes stand-alone.)
Go for it Chester!
The problem with jobs at National plus schools is knowing where they advertise. Sometimes they advertise in the Jakarta Post, other times from recruitment agencies. That's why I advise just to contact them.
The better paying schools require teacher qualification, though others actively seek qualified teachers, they often employ teachers without teaching credentials, i.e. B.Ed or Dip. Teach.
The job advertised above pays well! |

not too sure why you feel the need to use this forum to take out your 'wonderful life' on everyone else that happens to hold a different opinion than your own. We are entitled to them. The people who come here are looking to get more than one perspective to be able to make an informed decision. Your experiences, perspectives and opinions are just as worthy as everyone else's, but don't go fooling yourself into thinking they are more so. So say what you've got to say. Leave it up to them to make up their own mind.
side note: wedding plans for next October (what does your comment have to do with this forum topic anyway... oh yeah, right ... me getting laid regularly... you in desperate need thereof). |

www.austembjak.or.id/aei/NationalPlusSchools.pdf
or
www.austembjak.or.id/aei/NationalPlusSchools.pdf+national+plus+schools+++indonesia&hl=en&start=9
There you go--- 25 National plus schools, their email address and details.
I am not an agent. I can't lead you by the hand. There they are! If you are serious about applying you have the resources to do so. If you are not up to scratch as a teacher, then forget it!
Bedevilled, this is not a forum on gay issues. If you wish to talk about those kinds of things then there are plenty other forums to choose from. Sex is a completely different issue than teaching. Whether you are bisexual, metrosexual or just anal crazy, we do not want to know, Bedevilled.
I said it before I'll say it again, you do not know what you are talking about. Your comments on international plus schools, your assertion that ESL jobs do not pay more than 12 million rupiah, and your misreadings of posts are proof. |

That's right guru, when all else fails, resort to homophobia.
