Heading to Okayama city with my girlfriend in August - does anyone have job contacts there as I am looking for work (gf has a job, I don't)?

Have Bachelor, TESOL cert, and currently work as an ESL teacher in Australia.

Don't sweat it mate. Okayama is a big enough city that with your credentials you should be able to find something fairly easily. I can't give you any specific leads, just hit the schools when you get there, tie on and resume in hand.

I also saw a posting for a position at a university in Okayama but you need a minimum of a Masters and publications for a full time position.

Better luck next time.

How is the job search for Okayama if you don't have a university degree?

I know that Ben has come and gone and is now back in Oz. What an old thread?

Dominique, what do you plan on doing without a degree? Coming on a WHV or getting married are your 2 main options.

Okayama is a nice city, been there a few times. Don't know of any schools though.

I have a degree, it's for someone else.
i figured it was more of a rural area, so the only option there is private tutoring. But I'm not sure, since I've never been there.

It is not rural, it is a city, albeit a small one. There are schools there, I'm sure Nova has its clutches there somewhere.

Gordon,

Yeah, have a look at Okayama-ekimae at night: http://onesandzeros.no-ip.org/pictures/2003_08_okayama/200308_okayama06.jpeg . Nova' s there.

I don't know the exact prospects for Dominique's friend, but Okayama was, in retrospect, a very nice place. However, I fully recommend living *in* the city. Don't go too far outside. The only other place I can think of really being hopeful is Kurashiki. I lived outside the city, and I don't think it would be worth looking for work out there, and from experience, I can't recommend living out there if the work is eikaiwa (and the associated hours/environment). If you go as an ALT, I think it would be a totally different story...

Good luck, and to whoever goes, enjoy it. I miss it.

Chris
