Ghost is in Montreal, Canada studying for a Diploma in Human Resources Management at McGill University, and working part time at MLS as an ESL teacher. The current rate is $16 per hour, which is barely enough to keep body and soul together. From a financial standpoint many are better off in Turkey, but you have to put up with the b.s.

Plan B. is to get on the supply list for the "Commission Scolaire de Montreal" once Quebec Teaching Certification has been obtained. Supply teaching is not an ideal job, but the pay is decent, averaging at about $180 per day, and it is not taxed because you are not permanent.

Oops I got it wrong-but you did post something about supply teaching in the UK. Apologies.
(My God apologising and agreeing with Ghost in the same thread. I must be getting soft in my old age)

By those words you are implying that ghost is some sort of monster who does not deserve any apologies or niceties afforded to people......

I am implying nothing of the sort. I fail to see it. Where does the monster thing come from? I'm confused. Care to explain where this logic comes from.

If you attribute motives and behaviour and values to people as you have done with ghost, then you are most likely doing the same with your students, who will not benefit from having a teacher categorize them in such a stereotypical way. This type of subjective thinking is dangerous because it influences teachers in the way they evaluate students, especially in correcting essays and free form types of language learning and production.

As I'm *still* trying to pick my next destination, I could use a little advice about master's programs in Turkey. I understand that there is a prestigious and reasonably priced M.A. program at a university in Istanbul that is known as the "Harvard of Turkey." Now, I don't want to go to Harvard, but I thought I might like this place. Anyone know more? Or does anyone have a reference to a good, reasonably priced grad program in Turkey?

By the way, I did a Yahoo search for the "Harvard of Turkey," but it turned up nothing of use.

Thanks for your help.

The MA at Bosphorus Uni. has a good name. It's a 2 year program. Also there is a part itme distance course with Aston Uni.(support centre in Istanbul). All MA programs are pretty cheap compared to the US or UK.
