|
|
Hey - I have a couple of questions, (hypothetical of course):
I have a friend who has a job with a certain school/company in Japan and is still waiting for them to tell her when she starts work (after waiting 8 months already). The thing is, she is thinking about withdrawing her application but all her paperwork has already started going through, has been sent to Japan etc - if she does do this does this screw any chance for her applying again further down the track?
(this question is in regards to a visa as well, not just with that
school...)
Also, can anyone tell me whether there is an age limit on getting a working visa for Japan?
The other question I have is - say you are a New Zealander living in
the Uk - can you apply to work in Japan and get interviewed etc
in London and leave for Japan from there?
Thanks for any info. |

Why should it take 8 months? For most people it takes 3 months from the time of interview until they fly out to Japan.
Its is OK to withdraw your application any time up until you get your visa approved. Once you have started work you are supposed to give one months notice.
I cant see any problem with getting a job after turning them down, its the company that is keeping them waiting, not anything that they did wrong.
No problems with getting visa IMO, as long as the paper work is in order you should be OK.
Working holiday visa is up to 30. regular visa there is no age limit- you just need a degree.
You can apply for a work visa but to my knowledge if you want a working holiday visa (6 months, one time renewable) you have to apply from New Zealand AFAIK. Normal sponsored work visa the visa is done through the japanese embassy in London. No harm in asking though. |

Regarding your hypothetical friend,
Something wrong is certainly going on.
If this was me and I was being strung along for 8 months, I would call them and tell them that you are not interested unless you get the work visa within the week. If you have waited this long, I'm sure you will not get a visa.
Forget about that job and move on. |

Hi Gordon - thanks for your reply. Very helpful. Ok, ok, this 'friend' is me ...
I am just getting really sick of this school saying 'July', 'September', 'January', the latest was 'end of Feb'.
I still really want to come to Japan but I'm constantly putting my life on hold and I can't do it anymore. I turn 30 next year so I'm running out of time for a visa for the Uk - so, yeah, just wanted to make sure I wasn't screwing up any further opportunities to come and live and work in Japan at a later stage. Uk - here I come!
Thanks again. |

From the Ministry website (for working holiday visa only)
Since the Working Holiday programme is intended to promote greater mutual understanding, the applicant's primary aim should be to holiday in Japan. The programme is not designed for persons who mainly intend to work or study in Japan (for which purposes the appropriate visa should be sought). To ensure that the programme's objectives are met, the following requirements are to be satisfied.
The applicant
must be a citizen/national of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or Korea, Germany, and the United Kingdom currently residing in his or her country of citizenship.
must intend primarily to holiday in Japan for a specific length of time.
must be between 18 and 30 years of age (25 years in principal for the U.K. at the time of application.)
must possess a valid passport and a return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase a return ticket.
must possess reasonable funds for living expenses, including medical expenses, during the period of the initial stay in Japan. For a single person, the minimum is US$2000, for a married couple, US$3000 or equivalent amount of the national currency.
must be in good health and not have a criminal record. |
