Ravin': Yeah, I know ladies in a lotta cities, particularly in Mexico, whose time is their own. They all have short-term, orificial rent space and manage to sleep till noon every day from time well spent!

Great gig!

Distiller: No offense, but Bush --- as any President ---- knows what's happening usually long before the press has a clue. Why should he read, for instance, Maureen Dowd or Le Monde? Each morning, along with specific briefings, he's given press summaries. I've concluded that you honestly do not know that the burden of being an "intellectual" in politics carries with it the accompanying stigma of being a timid airhead. The last "intellectual" to serve as American President was a guy named Wilson. No, not Kennedy or Carter or Bubba. They were good students, true. And Kennedy had balls. The other two were alternately praying and braying. But certainly one of the finest presidents this country's ever had didn't even attend college: Truman.

I have confidence in his short concentration span to accurately repeat the Oath of Office next January. Wish I had the same confidence in his abilities. What the hell, You Can't Always Get What You Want.

cheers,

I hope Moonravens and extoeres grandchildren arent reading this.
Teenage humour hardly becomes you!

Bush is not illiterate but uses his common Texas man act to great effect. He is perhaps more astute than we think. His emotional agruments seem to work wonders on women voters. I wish I could find some decent analysis on the debates, anyone know where?

2 over Lee: You might be surprised to know that my 16-yr-old grandson has already had a great deal more experience of certain aspects of this world than the obvious experience of many on this site. Takes after his Grandma's side of the tree. Now, if I can just shelter him from Naom Chomsky and Distiller!

cheers,

I don't believe in, nor do I have, grandchildren.

I was extremely fortunate, as I was raised by my grandparents. They were great!

However, we as a species do not deserve to continue reproducing. We've made a diasaster on the planet.

First of all I'd like to say that I'm honored to be mentioned in the same sentence with Noam Chomsky as he is one of the few people who hold the US accountable for its actions whether they be republican or democratic intiatives.

Secondly, I regret that exeotre feels that he has to shelter his grandkids from people with differing opinions.

Thirdly, while of course the president recieves briefing they are filtered by any number of aids and most presidents choose to bypass the filter on several levels. Bush on the other hand get all his info from his yes men. And in the debates we've seen the effects of this regime: an inability to tactfully handle disagreement.

Lubeck,

Sorry if I trampled, arrogantly, on your tender sensibilities. Some of us, however, are actually looking forward to the fulfillment of the Mayan and Hopi prophecies. Compared to the dinosaurs, we have been only a winking of the Universe's eye anyway.

I think in terms of this board that may be One of us...

That may well be true. The level of this board is pretty marginal.

What exactly are you suggesting, belief in these prophesies to be mainstream ? Oh you are such an enlightened individual, so in touch with other cultures, it must be hard for you to deal with the likes of us.

It isn't easy. Especially with snide folks like you, whose ignorance seems to respect no boundaries.

Ravin', you need a good man. (No, I'm not available; besides, I don't like middle-aged white wimmen wearin' turquoise chokers and buckskin leggings, carryin' a heavy musk and The Unbearable Light-Headedness of Being LoonRavin'!) But I got a buddy, hangs out on 3rd Street, friend a Gertie's, who specializes in greasin' down middle-aged matrons with Best Foods Mayonaise and sendin' 'em a into frothing fury on a shower curtain. Offers curb service specials on Mondays 'cuz business is slow. You want I should make an appointment?

cheers,
