Dear teachers
How much can I expect to get as a part time Net teach, on a per hour basis?
I am currently being paid $250 an hour for a block of 3 hours at 2 local kindergartens.
I have been teaching 2 years now and have a Tesol cert.
Thank you |

Why? Mr. Ludwig?
I work at 3 part time jobs and have some private students, it works out.
Thank you for your reply, at least I know that someone is reading this |

...but the NET schemes are all full-time. What you are doing is working on your own as a so-called "NET" teacher - you merely use a legal tag for a situation that's not been legalised, I suppose.
NETs aren't allowed to accept extra work.
But your wages are somewhat in line with prevailing rates; I used to make above that several years back though my subject was not oral English, and therefore commanded better pay. |

What the hell do you mean by 'why'? It is because, as written quite clearly into all germane paperwork in countless places, EMB NETS are all full-time and, most importantly of all, any other work is forbidden (at the level of the immigration department).
The only other option is that, in fact, you are not a NET. Do you work for the EMB of the SAR of HK? If not, do not employ the term NET as you will be inundated with conflicting advice and reports.
To be quite honest, I fail to see how you could get permission from immigration for part-time posts. You need residence (not an ID card) to perform part-time duties as sponsorship is only available for full-time posts. |

The poster doesn't mention his immigration status, so you have no idea what it is and that comment is, at best, useless.
Furthermore, even the most cursory of glances at the job section of the SCMP shows that the term "NET" has passed in to common usage to mean "native English speaker". |

Well, really isn't NET simply an acronym for Native English Teacher? Obviously, the poster is not in the government NET scheme so what is the point in bickering over these technicalities. How about just answering the question for once?
Per hour work varies greatly. You can get up to $500 and even beyond in some cases. Most get $250-350 and I would say $250 an hour is decent for kindergarten work, especially if you're getting chunks of hours. Getting more would not be unheard of, however.
See actually answering the question isn't so hard, is it? |

O and Roger, good for you
My mistake everyone else who seems so offended by my question
Yes, I thought that having a tesol certificate qualifies me as a Net teacher , taking it to mean Native English (speaking) Teacher

Yes, I was born here.

You need a degree in Education and recent teaching experience to join the NET PROGRAM. |

Being a NATIVE ENGLISH TEACHER (NET) does not not mena havign ot be employed on the HK EMB NET Scheme.
A person can be a Native English Teacher, by virture of being a 'native speaking teacher of English'. |

I thought a net was something used to catch fish or hit a tennis ball over. |
