Hello
I'm looking for work in Salamanca from October. Ive emailed my CV to a few places but no luck so far. Can anyone suggest any good places to try? Im going out there in October to try and find somrthing. Is it easy to find work there. Ive got a TEFL certificate and I speak Spanish too.
Any advice would be great!

Okay, I'll reply a week after your post.
Although the last time I was there in the '70s, I would say the only really interesting endeavor in Salamanca would be the renown Universidad, which dates from the Middle Ages and on par with Paris, Bologna, Oxford and some others. The Plaza Mayor is one of the most impressive in Spain.
If that interests you, check my post in here in "Anyone in Valencia" in which I wrote of my experience with the Hispanic Studies Program. I know it has been offered at the University of Salamanca and should still be.
However, as far as work goes, I would not get up high hopes. I would stick to the major urban areas for that, Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and a couple of others. Even Valencia is limited in teaching opportunities.
However, Salamanca is a great place but in a provincial region of Spain. Perhaps the most refined Castillian Spanish is spoken there and that would be a real plus. And like all places in Spain, be prepared for low wages.
Take the Hispanic Studies program in the morning, teach in the PM hours.
You would definitely have to do something like that in Salamanca or you would really be bored out of your mind.
The bottom line, by all means, go! |

Hi Annie,
Do you have an EU passport?
If you are set on going to Salamanca be prepared to encounter difficulties finding work, even if you do have EU citizenship.
Speaking Spanish will not really help you find a job teaching English, though it will make life much easier in Spain.
Furthermore, most schools don't hire by email....i.e. you need to visit the school in person.
If you do end up finding work in Salamanca you're quite lucky...it is a beautiful town with very unique architecture. Do check out the Casa de las Conchas...amazing ! |

I just noticed this post after posting my own question...I, too, am nearly obsessed with the idea of returning to Salamanca, where I studied in college, to teach. I'm curious why you consider it a difficult place to get a job? Though it's a not a large city, I thought it would be possible because of the city's lively and progressive nature...
Just wonder if I'm overlooking something critical here?
