Alright, alright....you people have depressed me beyond words with your talk of missing Marmite and blonde girls. Oh wait, that may have been me...

Anyway, I think it is high time that you all told me about all the things in Japan that you love/adore/couldn't live without. Afterall, you're all still there aren't you? Eh? Eh? Course you are. So talk.

GAS STATIONS!...

I just love being treated like a race car driver entering a pitstop. Cool

That is something I have yet to see in the west.

things i like about japan:
(in no particular order)

1. cheap sushi
2. i should know the name if this but i don't...the hand towels (hot in winter/cool in summer) in restaurants
3. the way the stores wrap/treat everything you buy as if it cost $!000 dollars
4. heated toilet seats
5. taxi doors opening on their own
6. edamame
7. drink machines on every corner
8. abundance of convenience stores
9. umbrella plastic covers when you go inside a store
10. jusco
11. fancy cell phones
12. simple elegantly designed furniture
13. cans with twist off lids

Yeah! Gas Stations are nice here.

Other things I prefer:

Japanese Beer: Not only do I think it tastes better then most back home, but you can drink it at the movies, walking around festivals, or next to the vending machine you just got it from.

Vending Machines: anything and everything can be had from these guys

Mobile Phones: Back home they suck

Kuroneko:They really rock. They will take great care of you. Not only deliver your package at a specified time, but go that extra mile(km) for you.

That extra special customer service you get most places you go.

There are many:

- Low income tax rate.
- Having more paid holidays than actual work days.
- Service
- Not tipping
- The train system
- The fact I'm never board and always have something interesting to do/see
- The fact Pride and K1 are shown on tv and they aren't pay-per-view
- Convenience of everything

I'm glad there are so many great things in Japan that far outweigh the bad.

Only a week and a half away until Pride 28. Cant wait (even though I have to dish out $29.95 and you get to watch it for free)! That card looks stacked. Damn them for having it on Halloween though.

Some of my answers have already been mentioned. Here are a few more.

Instant hot water from the shower/tub due to the gas tank heaters.
Road heating in some areas.
ATMs that allow you to take out huge amounts of money.
Reliable, punctual public transportation.
Coke more popular than Pepsi.
Widespread use of fax machines at home.
Great in-laws.
Many opportunities to teach my son English.
National health insurance.

I notice nobody has said cyborgs yet. Perhaps I have been mislead about certain technological advances.

Oshibori - hot and cold handtowels
Really good ramen
No tip required
Almost nobody doing smack, crack or weed in the street
Rarely being hit on or target of loser guys when coming home late at night
Onsen
The best hair care/esthetics I've ever encountered
Apartments so small you can clean 'em up sparkling in 30 minutes flat!
In rural places, quaint temples and shrines that are open all hours

100 yen shops that sell almost everything
Never being thirsty, always a vending machine nearby
Driving a little car that can fit down alleys
Almost no cops using radar guns
People aren't pushy
Customer service and it isn't an oxymoron
Supermarkets with 12 checkout counters and they are all OPEN.
Friendly sales staff (at least on the surface, inside they may hate you)
being complimented on how well I can use chopsticks (actually that is a pet peeve) We have a whole thread on that one. Rolling Eyes

I suppose I should have clarified my remarks. In the U.S. it is not uncommon for women (often overweight) to walk about in spandex shorts. It is truly horrifying. I have yet to see a Japanese woman (fit or obese) hit the town in clothes designed to be worn at the gym. And by the way, you can spend New Year's with me and we'll hunt the spandex-clad among us; results not guaranteed.
