I'm currently getting certified in TESOL through SIT in Krakow. Not having a real intense drive to live in Krakow throughout the winter I have decided that if I don't find a job starting Dec. 1st I am going to head home and temp for a month and then to sunny Mexico. (I speak some Spanish and would LOVE to become fluent.) Currently I am contemplating Puebla or Oaxaca and I am wondering if anyone can tell me what the demand is like in these cities, how soon before the start of second semester I should get to Mexico and any other pertinent info you think might be useful. I am newbie in this field and any job advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Sara

Hi Sara,
Many schools run on a semester system so you'll have better luck finding a job in January or August. There are also a few private institutes that hire teachers at other times of the year, based on need of course. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you some information about one of those private ESL schools.

I am currently living and working in Puebla. It took me a few weeks to find something...There are some schools who are looing for teachers now and I might have some leads for you for January.

You can email me for more info and any questions you might have.

Good Luck!

P.S. Also if you are interested in a place to stay..I am moving and my roomates are looking for someone new!

This might be an obvious suggestion for pertinent info, but I think that whichever cities you are considering, it's important to allow yourself enough time and money to look around. I've met a number of people who've accepted jobs or focused on locations that really weren't right for them, because they felt pressured into finding something soon. If they'd had a little more in the way of financial resources, they could've taken the time to check out more schools/locations and probably would have found something more suitable for them.

Tim, your always so positive and helpful!
Thats what happened to me.. I came to Puebla after visiting for a few days..and felt my window of opportunity was running out..not because of money but because school was starting.

Now that i've been here, I realize its not necessarily my dream spot, but a few months have passed, I am making friends and starting to feel a part of something. Where ever you go..just give it enough time, its always a little challenging in the beginning.

As everyone as been telling me...Wherever you are you have to be happy with yourself and ...make the best and have fun! So if it turns out not to be your dream spot, at least you tried and you can mark that off your list and try something new.

In the past several years I have lived in LA, San Fran and now here. I have no regrets in trying a new location and will keep trying until i figure it out.

Good Luck! Christina
