Stormin' Norman, you are naive to an extreme. I look forward to seeing your mug shot in the local press.
If you seek and take work as an illegal immigrant (another refugee from China) then do not be surprised if and when you are treated as one! |
Since when does asking a question imply that someone is "naive to an extreme?" It is usually people who do not "question" that are naive.
You misuse the words "illegal immigrant". Those words usually denote a person who moves to another country with the intention of permanent settlement without going through proper governmental channels.
That is not what my question was about.
I have a passport which allows me to live and work anywhere in many beautiful and pleasant European countries with very few hassles. I would never want to "immigrate" for the long term to a place like Hong Kong. Visiting and working for a few months, Okay. Even the Chinese who can afford to leave Hong Kong, don't want to stay there forever. They just visit for a few months from places like Vancouver, Toronto, London, New York and Paris before leaving again.
Bigotry resides in Hing Kong. |

The chances of being found out, Norman, are slim to none. Provided you look presentable every time you enter or exit the territory, don't do anything stupid that would draw attention to yourself and remember to be polite. In the year that I've been in hong Kong I have never seen an immigration official anywhere other than the airport/border.
Finbding work shouldn't be too hard, but the interview process will take weeks at least. Youi can't expect to walk into a full time job and begin immediately. Employers are cautious and can afford to be choosy as there are a large number of nmative speakers here legally.
That is something you should bear in mind, HK is expensive (compared to the mainland), can you afford to support yourself until your first pay day? |
Thanks for your impressions of what the reality in Hong Kong is.
In any location, often what the government, vested interests (such as legal foreign residents) and the local population says are out of touch with what really happens on the ground.
Some posters responding to my question have their axes to grind. |

Also, what about housing? Every flat I have rented in HK has required me to show my ID card. If you work illegally you do not have an ID card so where would you live? You would even have to pay the full tourist fare on public transportation everyday, as without an ID card you cannot get a resident's Octopus card! |
You can rent short-term housng with a passport. You don't need a HK Id card for that.

You can not switch and change passports for entering and leaving as HK immigration have something called a 'computer' system that reads all machine-readable passports and ID cards. If the numbers on the stamps do not match then you will be pulled in for questioning. |
From the above, I can tell you have never border-hopped as a Dual National entitled to Legal Passports from two different countries. I have done this before (even with machine readable passports, it is not a problem).
It works like this: I enter a country with My Irish Passport and get the needed entry Visa for that country. I leave that country, before that visa expires, with that passport.
At the Frontier of the second country I am about to enter, I use my Canadian passport and get the entry visa for it. When I leave the second country, after staying for a few days, I use my Canadian Passport.
I re-enter the first country again on my Canadian Passport and get the entry visa. I don't use my Irish passport to re-enter.
Irish and Canadian Passport holders usually do not require more than an entry stamp granted upon arrival in many countries which allows them to stay for anywhere from 90 to 180 days.
I pity people who can only have one passport. |

Then why are you so desperate to get into "Hing Kong", even if it means resorting to illegal methods? |
I am not desperate to get into honk kong. IT has too many assholes like you living there.
Do you even understand what my question was about?
Nothing I said was illegal, you racist *beep*.
What planet do you live on?
Why can't read above the grade 3 level?
Have you ever sought professional help from your prison cell.
You are nothing but a troll.
I asked a simple question and you act like a fucking jerk.
You are
Strange indeed. From reading your remarks it appears obvious to me at least that you are little more than some form of little turd. Perhaps it would be better for you if you remained in your never never make believe world ; that way more people will be willing to listen to you. |

Wow - very desparate indeed! Your students say you are a real jerk and I guess they are right. Your old buddies at EF say the same.
Alex says 'Hi', by the way. |
You don't know anything, do you?
I read your post about why you are now in Hong Kong.
You are such a screw up that you can't even keep a job teaching English on the mainland, if any of what you submit here is to be believed.
BTW, the salary you quoted you now make in HK is not so great.
Look in the mirror dude....you are delusional.
BTW, if You do know Yossaerian, what makes you think he is going to take your personal attacks lying doen.
Watch your back. You have more enemies than you know. |

My Got, TWL (or whatever you're called this week), you have been in Hong Kong way too long!
Go home man, I think we're better off without you here. |

You know, I think you'd really irritate me if I didn't occasionally laugh out loud at your comments...
"Tuna sandwich"???, where the hell did you get that from??
Seriously though, maybe you should go home now. Judging people on their income is a clear sign that HK has had too much of an influence on you! |
