Guys and Gals of the Gaijin community,

I have started a new little project and would love to get feedback from the Daves community.

I have been in Japan for 8 months and came across sites like f*cked Gaijin and young dudes... these are discussion forums but as there names apply only allow a certain few people in a certain demographic the ability to post and or write with any degree of seriousness. I made a snazzy little site called "lost gaijin" as thats how i felt for a long time after I arived in Japan..hehehe LOST that is....

anyway, I would like to call for submissions regarding the following topics:

Travel
Law
Relationships
Other Professions
Teaching in Japan
How To's

I am working on my masters degree now and thats another main reason i built this site. I must be the worlds worst journalist as Im a comsci major and as I have finished building the IT end of the system, thought it best if now I take a back seat and let the actual gaijin community use and abuse it.

If u would like to help out on this little project and would like to moderate, become a story and or site admin, pls drop me an email or post here....or on my site.... http://www.lostgaijin.com also i have a blog www.its-my-life.net which u can read some of the stuff i have been upto... I kind feel guilty cuz its like im plugging my stuff, but in actual fact plzzz dont get me wrong, im asking for u guys to take something i built an IT backend for a run with it.... i get scored based on the overall site and hey, who better else to complete a little gaijin community than the actual gaijins that live in it. The site also has journal section so u can create a little mini blog if u want and soon will add a user gallery module. There is no advertising on this site at all and is totally run by little old me... anyway, more power to all of ya... Brandon...Smile Confused

I have no clue what you are talking about. I suppose I am a 'young dude'...but I still don't understand what sort of context you are placing that in. What is a F'd Gaijin, and what is a lost gaijin? The question is so vague, can you give us a little background about what being in each category entails?

I was harsh, sorry. Your website is like a forum. What are the intentions and goals of the website?

Rather than making us find and check out those other sites, you could perhaps make it easier for us to answer your survey by providing definitions of those different types of gaijins. Help us help you.

(like Nismo, I, too, have no clue what you mean)

hey all...sorry for being confusing..... Embarassed

ok about the poll.... Exclamation

There are a variety of forums in Japan, 2 of them are called "Young Dudes" and "fu*ked gaijin". What i did was create a site called "lost gaijin" as a thesis project that would allow everyone else in Japan to become part of an online community...everyone else that is that felt that they were not in the demographic of being a Young Dude, or f*cked Gaijin.... hence stuck in between...thus "lost".

Young Dudes focus alot of the time is about girls, how to pick em up, how to dump em, etc.... f*cked gaijin while having a big user base is only really used by a dozen people and advice they give to newbies in Japan are comments like "f*ck you"... not a bunch of positive people by any means. They had been in Japan way to long... or were just twisted from the start..

now for "lost gaijin", im no writer...obviously...all i am is a IT guy so i thought, hey i can build something that is an actually a community... a place where a bunch of people can collaborate, and submit writings in a way that could be taken seriously...also a place where newbies can ask whatever they want without being flamed......and a community calender system, live chat, user journals for gaijins to make mini blogs etc..... but now that I have built such, i wanna give the control over its content to you guys and gals..

now, as u will see on the site there is no advertising, no sponsors, no donation buttons, as its a project..not a buisness... what do i get out of it... a good score from my prof's... Very Happy s

does this make a little more sense..? I hope it helps..

Its ok.... Smile

Goals of my project for school:

To create a system that would build community in the truest sense and give control of such system to the community.

Community Management Systems do have forums, but the main attention is on the written submissions, calnders, chats and so on... my inspiration... www.pusanweb.com was a community site i used in Korea... it was a real tool for me to use....loved it.....

Initially the design looks kinda cool but it is a bit difficult to navigate - colours etc . Plus there is too much on one page. Just gives me a headache.

The pictures in the masthead are good but the logo etc are lost. Is that intentional?

Not sure about the name. Understand what you might mean about lost but there aren't all that many who are. It is a bit off putting to me but maybe that is just my age and how long I have been here. It won't encourage people with experience to hang around to give advice etc which is what I thought you wanted by having forums about legal issues etc.

In Safari (KHTML), all of your links are black, which are no good against a black-colored background. In your CSS, you seem to be using "whitesmoke" as a color, which seems to work in Camino (Mozilla) (and presumably in IE), but is not a valid color according to CSS specifications. Your CSS has a few other glitches: See this. You should either correct your CSS or adjust your <body> tag for compatibility (ideally both).

hey all, thanks for the feedback..really.. Very Happy

the logo was intentionally set that way, but will be playing around with it some more... I put the site together in just a few days so didnt have a great deal of time on the art work.. installing the modules and getting the site to run as bug free as i could was stage 1..but will do my best to change around with some design ideas..

the links: well i guess there are a lot cuz i wanted to display 2 outside points...that being Japan Blogs and the other being the RSS feed from Mainichi...all the news feeds u see on the side...

Embarassed I thought what may be confusing is that on the left at the top, there is a section called "topics"..these being actual topics i would like writers to submit to...not actually forum topics which show up in the center block...anyone agree with this...? being a little confusing i mean..?

CSS...The template blackgoth was designed by a friend of mine and yes does need some work. It was not publically released and thus CSS tags are not perfected yet.... It was tested under IE and Firefox....as the engine is geeklog i wanna make it appealing for apple users also but apple users also mainly use IE and Frfx. If u would like to play with the CSS file and send it to me then i would love to put it up and that way safari users can also be catered to....

I find it hard to read because of the black background, tough on the eyes.

Also, you cannot access the forum without first being a member. How do I know if I want to be a member if I can't see what it is yet or if it is worth it? I think someone should be able to view first as a guest and if they like it, then they can join.
