You have made a good choice going to Barcelona. Valencia is another city worth checking out - even milder climate than Barca and more chilled on the tourist front.
From now 'till March, Madrid will be freezing cold, so you're better off on the coast anyway. Plus, the money in Madrid is hardly great.
