Howdy!
I started studying japanese language 4 years ago and next sensible step (I thought a few months ago...)was going to japan. As I do not have the money to go just for holidays, I decided to look for a job, but it's rather impossible for spaniards!!
I have had over 12 years of english education at an international school, but in spain and this doesn't impress them. I have applied for all the big eikaiwa, but they don't even reply to my emails and applications... Is there anyway besides geos, nova, ECC, aeon etc I can get a job in japan being spanish?
What about not telling them i'm spanish until the interview? Has anybody done this before? Or tell them I have been instructed in english but not telling them I went to school in Spain?
Am I the only one struggling to get a job in Japan?
Thanks,

Irene

Irene, do you have a university degree? The big language schools will only hire native speakers to teach English and you must have a university degree. There are some schools that teach Spanish and I believe NOVA has a Spanish-language website. You will have better luck if you say you want to teach Spanish.

You also really have to be in Japan if you want a serious shot at jobs as many companies here will not hire you without an interview first and you need a valid work visa.

What about teaching Spanish?
NOVA (I think) and Berlitz are possibilities.

Do you have a bachelor's degree? It is needed for the work visa.

Teach Spanish for Berlitz and get English/Spanish privates on the side. You may be presently suprised by demand for native speakers of languages other than English. Your English education will help you get the Spanish teaching job as the school will need Spanish speakers who can communicate with the boss -- eg: those that can also speak English well.

I wish it was that easy!! I already tried with Nova, but they do not have any spanish vacancy at the moment and they won't consider me as an english teacher candidate!

Yes I do have a BA Hons in languages, I speak a bit of japanese and I have a celta certificate too!!

As for Berlitz, they only recruit within japan, so I don't stand a chance as I don't have the money to go there for the interview and the training and not even be sure whether I'd get the job or not!

Ta anyway!
