I have a two month summer holiday coming up and I don't plan on working. Where are the best places for EFL teachers to lounge for very little money, travel, drink lots of beer or whatever else we get up to on holiday

Hey dmb go to Thailand.Cheap hotels,cheap booze,plenty of Laotian rope and free hookers.Lovely jubbly.

Hate to be a spoil sport, but buying "hookers" is just bad karma. I can't imagine any young American male that cannot get a legitimate date in most any Asian country.

A lot of Asian "hookers" are very young, sold into the trade (i.e. sex slaves) and probable not so healthy. If you the kind of a guy who has to buy sex, or prefers young girls, please spare Asia your pain, and get yourself to a therapist.

I'm in the Middle East.The culture here accepts hookers.The only women you can meet here are hookers.I however, am married.I know dmb and I know he's happily settled with his girl.It was a bit of a tongue in cheek post to provoke precisely the respose that it got.I know a Polish hooker called Vita.She is beautiful and fluent in about 5 languages,she also finished college.I once asked her why she did it and she told me that she liked sex and money.Perhaps she was different and most of the girls in the industry are exploited,I don't know.Underage girls getting banged for a few dollars is disgusting.Adult prostitution on the other hand is not...when you think about it,it's actually quite an honest and functional transaction.Sex isn't always about love.The girls in the ME get very rich doing it.

There are plenty of "free hookers" but you just do not know them by their proper label.

If you wind up paying through the nose, they aren't free! Perhaps a better term would be 'hookers on account'?

It seems like "doors' is concerning himself a lot about "hookers'...prostitution,etc.Wonder if his "supermodel" wife knows what he is up to? Laughing

However, I will say that I agree with biffinbridge about Thailand being a great place to go and mellow out for a while for very little money. I went to Phuket for a vacation a few years back and it still astonishes me how cheap everything was (again, not a reference to the hookers...or as we called them, 'drinky girls'). Wink

Good luck with your decision, dmb, and enjoy your summer vacation wherever you end up. Cool

To get back to the original poster's question:
If he or she happens to be in China, I suggest:
- Yunnan province: Kunming, Dali, Ruili, Lijiang, Zhongdian (now renamed Shangri-La). Plan on spending all your two months there - and enjoying it! This is extremely feasible!
Hainan would be another option, although I would not spend two months holidaying there. Combine it with neighbouring Vietnam then - very interesting and full of contrasts!
In contrast to Thailand, you will not bump into many international tourists in Hainan and Vietnam
