|

I am planning on moving to Taiwan in February and I was wondering if anyone knows of jobs that aren't strictly 'english' classes. By this I am referring to a bilingual school where, for example, they have geography, history or math in english. I have not heard of any yet in Taiwan and I thought I would float the question. I taught math in english in Bangkok last year and it was a great change from straight forward language classes.
Any information about this prospect would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, it is possible to teach subjects other than English. You'll see adds from time to time. Some private schools and expat schools teach other subjects in English. Do a search for such schools as Taipei American School and European school. There are others, of course. Ask over on Forumosa.com for more places. I'm strickly an ESL teacher, so my knowledge of schools that teach all subjects in English is limited. Try searching ads on Tealit.com as well. |

In answer to your question - yes, it certainly is possible. However, your chances of getting one of these positions will be greatly improved if you are a qualified teacher (e.g. if you hold an equivalent of a PGCE in the UK). A lot of the bilingual schools I looked into require this from their teachers. |

Taiwan has an absence of real, qualified foreign English teachers and an oversupply of hucksters - LOL!! |

This type of comment doesn't reflect well on you. |

t's not necessarily true either. I think more and more qualified teachers are coming over here, especially from South Africa. I still think that if you're a qualified teacher you'll have no problem finding this kind of work. |
