Hello, I've read different things about attaining a Polish work visa and wanted to hear from those already over there since the adoption in the EU. The embassy site says the visa needs to be issued from your native country (USA) but I don't have work lined up yet. Is it possible to attain the Visa through the mail after a job is secured? If you do attain a work visa, does it last only as long as your contract, or a (shorter?) set date?

I've also heard lovely horror stories about attaining and keeping a residence permit in Poland...all true, I'm sure!

Lastly, does anyone have experience gaining a student Visa in Poland, and what was required of them?

I'm guessing the EU hasn't changed anything (for the better or worse, yet) but if anyone can pass any first hand knowledge along, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Jeronimo

the position has changed yet again. I hear you can get a 12 month D1 work visa and not go thru the res card application. I have a res card and this suits me better than a visa. As drom 11th March 2004 you don't need a work permit. As far as I know the visa still has to be applied for inyour country of residence. Applications by post I'm not sure about because I alwys went in person.

I am going to take the CELTA in Warsaw next June and then apply for a teaching job in Poland. As I understand the current situation, after I complete the CELTA I will have to return to the US to obtain a visa. Is this correct? Is there any way to get the visa without having to make a return trip to the US?

your passport has to be processed in your country of residence. How it gets there is up to you. They accept cash and money orders, but no VISA, MC, American Express or personal checks.

it may be easier to get a job pre-CELTA and work until you get your residence permit....and take a Leave of Absence or do what you have to do.

Good luck.

^ Right about the passport but all consulates can (and some do) insist on in person interviews. Your passport also needs a stamp showing that both you and it left Poland together.
