Of course you have several people who could back you up in your claims that I'm irrational. Other teachers of EFL in Japan, of course.... |
Hey King, I'm neither in Japan nor teaching EFL currently...and I still can't stand you. Whether you're a troll or not is besides the point; you've yet to post even once on a topic relevant to this board. Instead, you brag on and on about how superior you are to the Japanese (based on one chance encounter with a Japanese chick who turned your ass down in Australia) and seem to thrive on mocking EFL teachers working in Japan. Yet, as far as I can tell from what you've shared in your posts, you're unemployed, still in school, and seemingly directionless (500 major changes, if I remember correctly). Not exactly the most impressive of backgrounds, huh?
As you're interested in neither EFL nor Japan, as you seemingly haunt this board solely to demean the other posters (most of whom, unlike yourself, have both degrees and jobs), my vote would be to kick your lazy, uneducated ass off this forum. However, and probably fortunately, I'm not the moderator..... |

Why bother posting on a board just so you can say you can't stand somebody? Get a life.
I don't have a job because I've only just graduated from uni. I have several plans for next year. I plan to have a career, not travel the world teaching EFL for a few years before wondering what I really want to do. People teaching in Japan, good for them, congrats. I have nothing personally against them.
I explained my rationale for having so many doubts about my studies. Its tough these days, there are literally 500 choices out there. The rationale of the Japanese girl sounded like 'ummm... I donno'. Its not as though she didn't speak English. I never said she turned me down, I was talking about someone from Hong Kong who wasn't looking for a relationship anyway, and it wouldn't have worked out either way.
You certainly show a great deal of immaturity. You blame me for trolling, yet thats exactly what you just did, and I hope you don't again. |

|

[quote="GambateBingBangBOOM"]It really boils down to something that is very, very simple. Some people have depression- a disease. They would not do very well in rural Japan, unless they are very outgoing AND speak a lot of Japanese.
There are psychological factors, environmental factors, etc that contribute to someone's depression. It's not just the neat little ads you see on tv calling it a neurotransmitter imbalance.
I feel sad when hearing about these people who attribute it to simply "a disease". It DOESN'T boil down to something SIMPLE: what's simple is your mentality regarding this "disease". Atittudes calling it a simple, medical disease were the ones that introduced shock therapy to people who suffered from things guys in lab coats had no clue over.
Tell me this - if it's so simple, why is it that the UN predicts depression to be the 2nd most disabling obstacle in 2020? Look at mental health from a broader spectrum: the numbers keep on climbing higher and higher. It helps when attributing a little more humanity to things like these. Even if cancer is a disease, its repercussions are social, economic, etc. Depression itself is not properly understood enough to be called simply as a "disease". Ignorance regarding depression is more the disease, imo.
So honestly, to you and the likes of ntropy who call it "wonky brain chemistry " ( the most idiotic thing I have heard about depression lately) please do us a favour. Unless you have experienced it enough to know it, keep the psychobabble to yourself. |
