I was idly perusing a thread here at Dave's, when I happened to peek at the number of posts my buddy moonraven had composed. She's written 1038, at a rate of 148.3 per month. I thought to myself, "geez, how can anyone take the time to write nearly 150 posts a month and still have time to be a world-class professor, movie critic and champion of the Venezuelan government?"
This led me to research a bit. Roger has posted a whopping 3942 (not a typo) posts at a rate of 181 a month! I mean, holy cra p (right?)!
These two are certainly not alone. While Roger is number one on the list of prolific posters, moonraven is way down in 18th.
I feel as if I'm on this site quite a lot, and I think this is my 113th post (at a rate of just over 8 a month). I guess I try (though not always successfully) to only post when I am particularily engaged in the discussion, am attempting to offer some honest-to-goodness insight or advice, or take exception to something that is written. (This of course would not really qualify as any of those, so I've contradicted myself.)
Does anyone else find this kind of posting prowess amazing? This is really the only forum I frequent, so I don't know if these are big numbers or not.
I'm not specifically trying to flame moonraven or Roger (though I have been placed on the "troll" list), I just find these numbers astronomical.
Comments?
(By the way, yes, I'm sober. I'm just bored at work waiting for transport.) |

You're beyond bored. You're comatose. What business is it of yours how many posts anyone makes? Are you the Post Police, now, too?
Some of us are well-educated, well-travelled, read at least one book a day in another language, and write several at once. There's a clue in there: the word write, as in WRITER. One of the things writers do is write. Amazing, isn't it? |

moonraven,
Can't comment enough on the quality of your stuff. Do keep it up.
Yes, it is amazing you're a writer, though I highly doubt you're alone in that respect on this board. I happened to have been an editor and a writer. Isn't that interesting?
It's also great you're well-traveled, another thing you have in common with just about everyone else here. I've lived in 4 continents. Isn't that keen?
Being well-read is impressive (especially in another language, and most especially when you write it about yourself). Anyone else here read books? I studied literature in college. Pretty cool, I'd say.
I'm also 28 years old. Neat, huh?
The point is (and was) that I was not only bored, but amazed at how much people comment here at Dave's. I wrote as much. There was no need to get defensive. I said I wasn't trying to flame you or Roger, and if you read it that way it isn't my issue. If you feel guilty about spending your free time writing on this forum I would suggest you stop; if not, keep typing away and enjoy.

You have to realize something else that will totally change your figures, I think.
Although it says when a person joined, that is a false date. My own label says I joined in 2003, which is untrue. I believe at that time the ESL Cafe redid its format completely, and asked that people register. However, some of us have been here far longer than what it shows. I've been posting here since 1997 or 1998, not 2003. Don't know if Dave took that into account when the register of how many posts was created. |

Cool, thanks. I didn't know that. My start-up date is correct. Cheers. |

And Roger only has the most posts under one username. Those of us paying attention can look at that list and name several people with more total posts...
But NO it doesn't matter. |

I noticed the Korea forum doesn't have a post count. Anyone know the reason why it is different from this one? |

I think people were getting into competitions over post counts..So someone would post
or
over and over to get a higher count. Mature..
Someone might correct me though... |

You can get a higher count by playing the word games! |

Yep, it's because someone hacked into it and took the whole lot down just before last summer. Post counts have never returned. The only way you can find out how many posts someone has made is if you check out their profile. |

In response to the original post, I think it is amazing that these people have this much time on their hands for this kind of stuff. Posting here is all well and good but get a life people.
And of course we have to have the standard moon-stark-raving-mad unprovoked attack response. It amazes me how much anger someone who professes to be so experienced and worldly has bottled up even after all these years. |
