Correct me if Im wrong, but JET is the only esl agency that will fly new employees from the US to Japan..
All others- Nova, GEOS, etc; the applicant is expected to fly themselves to Japan..
That being said..Anyone here recomend an airline that usually has the cheapest tickets for a flight to Japan?
OR is there any clearinghouse that usually sells tickets at bargan basement prices?
Also, should one get an open ended ticket?

When i flew to Australia on United, they wouldnt give me an open ended ticket- i had to pick a return date..

Thanks

Try visiting a travel agency in your local China Town and ask for a "Net Fare", I think. I got a $800 CANADIAN + Taxes ($600 US) quote for an October 1st depature from Montreal to Tokyo. The return is open for up to 12 months. Airline reservation agents will always give you a high price for long open-ended returns. It was an actual Air Canada agent who told me to call an agency and request, what I think she said, a "Net Fare". If you can't find anything cheap, cross the border and depart from Montreal. Maybe even spend a few days. You'll love it!!! Very Happy I can hook you up with the agency and agent if you wish.

Try IACE in Chicago. They are a consolidator. Their most recent fare from the US (several cities) to Osaka, Tokyo, etc. was $475 round trip. This was a student special, but other fares are comparable. Sorry I don't have the contact info, but if you do a web search you will find them.

TW if you come with a job lined up, i.e visa in hand (yeah yeah I know experts, the visa is what they give you at immigration at the airport but you know what I mean Very Happy ) then a one way ticket is fine. I don't know if nowadays a one way ticket saves you much but even if it's 50 bucks it's worth it.

I just booked a round-trip ticket from SF to Tokyo on Japan Airlines for about $600. I didn't have my visa sorted out at the time, so I had to get a round-trip ticket, but JAL is one of few airlines (maybe Air Canada as well, based on Obi Won's post?) that will let you extend the return date for up to a year, for free. I got my tickets through STA Travel, and they told me that most airlines will only let you extend your ticket for a few months.

If I add the title of this post to the handle you chose, would I be too far out of line suggesting:

SWIM?

I've found http://www.iace-usa.com/html/english.html to the best in regard to price.
