Hello everyone! I just graduated from college and accepted a position to teach at a high school. I have a few questions!
Should I let everyone know my sexual orientation? I really want to do a good job and know some people are prejudice to how other people live. You see on the weekends I like to dress up like a woman and pick up young naive men. Sometimes making them think I am a woman like in that song Lola! Also I like group sex with three or more people. I am bi-sexual.
Also does Japan have drag queen night clubs? Gay bars with a lot of Westerners? Are there any bi-sexual organizations in Japan? |

I think you should let everyone know! Even the students! The Japanese are not only totally accepting of your lifestyle, they respect people like you. In fact before coming here you should let who ever hire you know, because he or she might offer you more money! |

YES! In fact, those admirable qualities you so expertly describe are precisely what new recuits in the field of EFL in Japan are required to possess these days. They wouldn't employ you without them.
Seriously though, I think someone ought to sit down with Batgirl and give her a little talking to. |

No one cares about your sexual preference so you shouldn't just go announce it to the world. If someone is really interested they will ask you, but you don't see every Joe and Jane Schmoe running around screaming about their heterosexuality, or homosexuality. You were hired for a professional position and sex talk stays outside of work relationships. |

Bat Girl,
Do you feel the need to know what other peoples sexual preferences are?
I would assume that your answer is probably, "no."
That being said...other people are probably not interested in knowing yours. If you feel fear of being exposed for the person that you are, then maybe a little soul searching might be in order.
Sexual orientation should not be a determining factor when it comes to personality. You are the person that you are whether good or bad. Just be yourself and let other people worry about their perceptions of others.
Good luck

Bat Girl,
I don't know if it's a serious question or not but anyway, as others have pointed out, the subjects of your sexual preference or transvestisism are unlikely to come up in conversation.
With a lifestyle like the one you described, I would say that you wouldn't want to venture too far out from Shinjuku 2 chome. Osaka would probably be fine too but I can only speak of Tokyo. Anyway, I think you would probably die if you were to be placed in the countryside somewhere. Say to "no" to inaka Bat girl!

Again I can only speak about Tokyo ... I doubt you'd find them in the countryside but in Tokyo there are a few places.

Have you ever seen Priscilla the Queen of the Desert (An Australian movie about two drag queens who do singing revues (Abba's Dancing Queen, I think) in the Australian Outback.
Have no idea what the Japanese would make of you but you would be right at home in Harajuku. Not sure many schools would hire transvestites though. Even people who have sex-changes here are pretty much in the closet.
There are gay/lesbian organisations and bars in Kansai though I dont know about Tokyo. |

I agree with you Spidey most people are not interested in my personal life. I should rephrase the question to if someone asked me at work how should I answer. But from reading what everyone as wrote, I think if anyone ask it is because he or she is interested and so I should be honest.
Hello PaulH! About not getting hired: I already got a job to start this January! I don't have implants so during the week it is hard to tell from looking at me what I do on the weekend.
Anyway I do feel better from reading all the post! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! |

You got hired at a high school? Is this a private school? Public school? Sub-contracted ALT position? Did you do it from overseas or are you in Japan? |

I was hired in Sidney, Australia! The interview process took a long time. First there was a group interview then a second interview when I had to make a lesson plan for any age group then a third and fourth interview two months later. Finally I was offered a position but not guaranteed the location.
I am going to work in a public high school. Again I don't have breast implants so during the week I might look a little feminine compared to most men but no one would even slightly think I become a woman on the weekends! |
