I've applied to go back to school in Australia to get my Grad Dip in education. What happens after you get your cert?

In the US, after you get your cert,
1 you have to register it,
2 then it expires in a few years,
3 so you do professional education courses,
4 then get a cert that is permanent cert
5 and then do professional education courses every few years so it doesn't expire
6 and you have to continue to renew it every few years or so

What is the process in Australia?

How long will that Grad. Diploma in education take?

I've heard 1 year and 2 years - or does it depend on the state?

Grad Dip Ed courses are usually 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time. As an Aussie, I can tell you that once you receive your certification you never need to be recertified in Australia. However, there are professional workshops and you are always strongly encouraged to attend them.

Tonestar is quite correct in what (s)he says.

In Australia education is largely a matter for the states, although the federal government does put its 2 cents in too. This means that rules and regulations can vary, slightly, from state to state. In Victoria there has been a newly created body called the Victorian Institute of Teaching. (Not too sure of website, but just put that into google and you'll find it quickly enough.) They may, or may not, be of some help.

I don't know if other states have a similar organisation.

Hope this is of some assistance
