Fierce, but well put.
Now watch as the whole incident gets whitewashed over the next weeks.
Haven't heard from the officer's families yet... |

For those of you who read well in Spanish, La Jornada is online at www.jornada.unam.mx, and yesterday's editorials in both the main edition and La Jornada Morelos dealt with this topic.... |

MR - are you saying that those policemen deserved to die that way?
But I do agree with you that the fierceness of the police raids afterwards was not warranted. Cant say Im surprised, tho. Goddess help whoever they finger as setting the two policemen alight! |

I don't think anyone would say that anybody deserves death by immolation...I think what's being said here is that one has to understand the causes of such things. |

Only Thelma (well, maybe there are others) would be wrongheaded enough to misread my posts so badly as to think they indicated that the policemen deserved to be lynched--or so meanspirited as to try to paint what I said in that light because I had indicated that folks who don't know anything about the situation should practice some discretion with their opinions. Give me a break. |

"Meanspirited" is an apt way to describe this behavior for sure...of course 'spirit' is so often misconstrued. I mean, some of us may remember Castaneda's misuse of the term...he was writing somewhere in Mexico, wasn't he? Whatever happened to that guy? I read that they are now booking a sixteen year old for his part in this crime...come on, the truth is that these people were either crazy, bored or bored crazy to even contemplate doing something so strange. Too many USAmerican movies I'd suppose...

That is about the most ignorant line yet in this thread.
You won a piece of cake!
I'm sure it went like this. 17 bored Tlahuacenos, sitting around getting high. One pipes up and says 'gee, wouldn't it be fun to burn some cops alive?'
...and sure enough, they find three copes to burn. That story works real nice when you ignore so many other details and forget about the history of the region, the people, and the authorities.
Incidentally, had a great conversation today with a taxi driver who used to be a Mexico City cop. He said, and I quote "they got what they deserved'. His quote in case anyone's blood boils to a cortex clot. |

If not, it was d*a*m*n close!
At this point I am going to rest my case that people who don't know anything about what they're writing about should simply cease and desist. Ignorant people have so aptly demostrated that point for me that I need no further witnesses. |

Actually, the term 'bored' was utilized strictly in the spiritual sense - when life loses all purposeful direction and meaning then the senses become dulled. When this happens people are open to all types of negative spiritual influences. 'Burning in the fire' has been a practice which has been around since the beginning of time. The early Aztecan-Mayan civilizations practiced fire sacrifice abundantly, as well as mayriads of others all around the globe - including the early Caananites (or Israel). Wake up people! Read Jeremiah 19:5 - (from the Bible, if you have one) "They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind."
You see, this was much more an incident of 'human sacrificing' to what people felt was an unjust cause. Please, for Heaven's sake...let us move ahead - not backwards.

By the way...The God of the Bible spoke those words through the Prophet Jeremiah oh so long ago...since I didn't understand your last comment and question I thought that I should clarify my post...
Onward and onward...(I rest MY case) |

Right. Fundamentalism--just what was needed to be applied to this situation. |

I'm sure that I am not the first one to apply this horrendous act to just such a cause...and I know that others will follow suit. More importantly though...isn't it nice to know that God is a God of justice - and His wisdom so far outshines anything that we could possibly comprehend. Time for a change... |
