OK, so I've got a great gig teaching conversation and Western culture (drinking, fighting and no respect) at a school in Thannon Rat Burana: trouble is I live up here in Thannon Chuaploeng, near MRT Klong Toei.

The bus system just winds me up. Too many changes and messing about. I like every ounce of sleep possible, know what I mean?!

Am I insane to want a motorbike?! Surely not!

Question is, where do I find a decent second-hand one? Is a Honda Wave my only option?! A 125cc will do I guess. How much to pay....25,000? 40,000?

AAAAgghhh. The taxi there and back everyday is creaming my salary.

Any help from you long-term Big Mango experts would be much appreciated.

Nick.

Cheapest used motorbikes run about 15,000B (and may fall apart in 15 days). Go to a motorbike dealer for used as well as new.

You should also try looking for a bus. The only way to do this is sit in front of your nearest bus stop for 30 minutes and count busses (marking it down on a sheet of paper), then do the same thing at the other end of the line. If you're lucky there'll be one or two aircon lines that run your route. (Of course, you could also just ask a Thai at the bus stop what bus goes where -- they often know.)
