Hi! I'm new to this Forum and I need some help from whoever is willing and able to help me with this. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the thing:

I'm Canadian
I have a TESL certificate w/ Oxford Seminars
I have a Bachelor of Sciences
I want to go work in HK this January 2005 as an english teacher.

The only teaching experience I have (or that is somewhat related in some way) is this:

I am a dragon boat coach. I have coached a few teams and had to teach them the theory and practical side of the sport for 2 years now. ( i don't know if that could be considered as teaching experience or not in this context)
I was an english and french tutor for a kid for a few months (6 months) on a one to one basis.
Besides this, all my work experience is related to my studies (computers, programming, internet).

My Main Objective to go to HK is to teach english or/and french and to improve my chinese by living and taking classes there. I have read that HK is not for beginners but as long as I have some sort of income and a sort of entry level job to get experience and allow me to stay there for me to achieve my objectives, I am happy. Some people have told me to get to HK and apply there. My chances are much better than applying from Canada. The potential employer gets a chance to meet me at least. Although, I am still applying as we speak from Canada.

From what I have seen, lots of jobs in HK ask for a Work Visa or/and a HKID which I don't have.

Where could I get those if, worse case scenario, the employer does not want to sponsor me the visa or help me get it w/ the HKID (if I need it) and so on?

I am willing to pay it from my own pocket, if it means having better chances to get a job there. Also, I am willing to stay in HK for one month or so to take my chances. There is no problem as for $$$ to stay there in the mean time while I look for a job.

Last thing, is it better to get a travel insurance/health plan from Canada or from HK (is it cheaper, easier, simpler, ....?)....

Could anyone please help me with this? Any advice, comments, information would be great...Thank you for your time and help.[/list]
