"God', like 'atocity' is a word we all choose to convey meaning (hey we are coming around to the inklings of an English class!) that isn't exactly available in the palm of our hands to display.

What limits do we suppose there are? Clearly, I can't go back in time to the watch the horror of a poor woman being burned at the stake for gathering nature's herbs, so yes, there is a limit set by today's technology.

Higher wisdom...great expression that captures what I'm saying. There are many paths to attaining, approaching, or simply trying towards higher wisdom. Rather than select the word 'god' I like to use 'learning', 'discovery', or 'open-mindedness' But hey, that's my choice.

You are saying that we are not permitted or able to create our own happiness? sorry, but it's not so obvious to me as to why. could you explain that one?

'atocity' ? I don't know where I've been but you seem to have certainly created a word here...am I thick or was that intentional...?

You (or Mankind) in general may attempt to create a utopian paradise and thus surround yourself with a false sense of happiness - my feeling is that true happiness only stems from a (our) Creator and right living in accordance with His perfect laws. Now don't get me wrong Guy, I certainly am not always experiencing a personal happiness...but I do know all too well when I am unhappy. I am happiest when I feel that I am completing a heartfelt 'calling' - and I believe that can only come from
a wisdom which originates outside of myself.

Atrocity (sorry for the misspelling )seemed to fit the theme of witch burnings, lynchings, and the depraved nature of mankind you mentioned.

I wasn't aware I was trying to create a utopian paradise. Yet another grand project for my in-box. They don't pay me enough for that. I don't think anyone out there is truly concerned with creating a utopian paradise for everyone. Well, except maybe Bible-preachers bent on converting others. This is rapidly getting to the point. It should be neither yours or my job to tell others what they need to be happy, enlightened, fulfilled, etc. That is an individual choice and if it leads to a personal utopia, found through using the word 'god' or using the word 'enlightenment' or the word 'nirvana' then so be it.

Your feeling of happiness and how to pursue it is yours and yours alone. Just as mine is.

I too feel my happiest when I am completing a heartfelt calling - and I believe that it is a mixture of that from within and that from without.
