Mandu, I wouldn't sweat too much if I were you. From the sounds of things it's just a bad class. All I can suggest is to cut down on the spoken stuff and try to keep them amused - making things, drawing, colouring etc
I teach three kindergarten classes who I call the big kids, the little kids and the new kids. The big kids are great, much better than last year. The little kids, although they can get a bit restless sometimes, are quite enjoyable to teach. However, I'm having problems with the 'new class'. It's only a small class (14) but I had to start from scratch - they had next to no English. For the first month they were so quiet. Now it's the exact opposite, they just won't behave. About three weeks ago they appointed this new TA for this class. Honestly, this girl was a complete plank. I wanted to slap her silly. The kids would start turning tables over and she'd just stand there with her hands in her pockets grinning like a cheshire cat. I had to go and drag another teacher out of her class and tell her this girl was useless and that I needed a proper TA.
Thankfully since then another girl has been sitting in who can actually control them (she's much cuter as well )
Even so, the class just don't seem to have any interest in learning. They like singing songs but as for learning words - forget it.
Good luck with the horror class. I thought I had it bad but these kids sound like right little brats. |

Your boss is in the wrong for having so many kids in one class. 28 kindies in one class? That is waaaaaay too many for one class at that age.
I'd walk out, too. In fact, I would have never agreed to teach the class in the first place.
A class that size is not unteachable. You have to be Hitler in order to get anything done, however. Repeating "sit down" a million times only teaches the kids "sit down".
I'd tell your boss that the class needs to be broken up.
I have taught Kindies before, but never that many students.
Good luck. |
