Hey guys
I've been here in Japan for about 2 months now. Since then, I have gotten about 3 haircuts, because I can't stand having long hair. I've only been to a few haircutting places near my apartment, one being QB House, which is great because it only cost 1000yen for a haricut and they promise to finish the job in ten minutes or less (eventhough mine takes 15 minutes). Also, I have been to a haircutting place in Shinjuku, which is really old. The Barbershop only has one barber and he only charges 1000yen also. Do you guys know of any other Barbers or Haircutting places that charge 1000yen and give decent haircuts? My haircut is okay, but sometimes QB House employees are very sloppy and tend to forget to cut or shave sections of my head. My hair grows very quickly, so I often go to the Barber once a month. I have since contemplated just shaving my head completely to cut down my visits to the Hair Salon.
Also, how would I say "Could you just cut the sides and the back of my head" and "Could you blend the hair from the bottom to the top" and "Please don't cut my bangs" in Japanese? When I go to the Barber, my girlfriend always goes with me, and she does all the talking. I know she is getting fed up with this, so I want to do it myself, and just speak to the Barber in Japanese. I know I could just pick up a magazine and point to a picture, but I really don't want to. I much rather speak in Japanese. This way I could practice my Japanese and also have the exact haircut I want. Any help you guys can give me would be great!
Thanks again for taking the time to read my post. |

Wouldn't your girlfriend be able to coach you on vocabulary and speech pattern while looking at a fashion magazine? And I tend to steer clear of the 1000 yen 10 minute places - I have only ever seen botched jobs from them. |

I usually say (for short back and sides) "kari-age kudasai"
(Dont say kara-age as this means fried chicken and karage is squid.)
You might want to tell him how short you want it "2-3 senchi made nokoshite" (leave about 2-3 centimeters or one inch)
Bangs is the hair in front ? Japanese word is "maegami" so you would say "maegami o kirenaide kudasai" (Don't cut my fringe) |

Thanks for the advice Nismo and PAULH. I guess you are right Nismo, I should just ask my girlfriend how to say something in Japanese. Thanks again PAULH for the japanese translation. |
