With taxi fare at such a premium and subways shutting down at midnight, how does the late-night pub crawler find his/her way home? I don't plan on making a habit of spending my hard-earned Yen on beer and sake week after week, but for those special occasions I'd like to avoid having to wait for the morning trains. And don't tell me you guys actually rent those coffin-sized hotel rooms untill morning.

The newer internet cafe chains can be booked for a 6 hour chunk of time at night. The cubicles come equiped with a short couch, tv, dvd player, computer and may or may not have a playstation. You also get free beverages. The price is a little over 1000 yen.

If you aren't taking a taxi home, and you don't live close enough to your house that you can walk or bike the trip - welcome to an all-nighter!

As mentioned, your best bet outside of a club or pub is at an internet cafe. They are cheaper than hotels, and entertainment is provided! You can get some free calpis (yum!) to rehydrate your system, too.
