Hi!

I am looking to share a flat with someone in Southern Madrid for Jan-Feb 2005 (and maybe longer!). Is anyone familiar with the "Atocha" area or surrounding neighbourhood? I am hoping we could be roommates and discover Spain together! I am hoping to find a TESL job for Jan/Feb.

Any info on finding accomodation (even the university!) would be great!!!

There's no point in renting a room and looking for a job if you're only going for 2 months. Why would an employer or a landlord go to the trouble of taking someone on for such a short time?

However, for a stay until the summer and beyond, "Segundamano" is the general classifieds newspaper. You can browse through some of the ads right now on the web-site to get an idea about places to stay and work.

I too am looking for accomodation in the month of january. I am basically about to give up my search for a cheap and suitable place to live in madrid because I am unable to make informed decisions while in the US. Does anyone know of a strategy for finding reliable housing for just one month. I plan on doing my own search for a more permanent place once I arrive but I want to have accomodation the moment I arrive. Anyone been down this road before? The most reasonable place I have seen on the net is through MadridInsider, anyone familiar with the services provided by this site, reputation etc??

Thanks

Hi,

I used this agency for my 4 week TEFL course . The place I rented through them was very basic, but it was the cheapest I could find. The apartment was close to Plaza Castilla metro stop, do not expect top class accomodations, it was good for my 4 week course. Dont get me wrong it was ok for the money and the short time I was in the apartment. I dont know who youre with (TEFL school) but just in case youre with the school I went with (EBC), ask them for other options, sometimes the Spanish people attending the teaching practice classes look for students who want to rent rooms in their houses.

Hi,

I came to madrid about a month ago and found a room in a shared apartment with an angency caled Sal y Ven. As I remember the website had the same name and they seem very fair. The rent is 420 a month regardless fo the room size and the location, but I am livnig in Plaza de castilla which is excellent for taking the metro or buses quickly across madrid. My room is also big and i have a balcony and my own bathroom. You have to leave a 200 euro deposit, but you will get it back: they are reputable. You only have to give 2 weeks notice to leave and can reserve the room as long a you want: one month or one year.

Other places, like in the Atocha area maight be cheaper but the rooms with sal y ven include electricity and gas in the cost which most other apartments seems to charge seperately. Having said all this Ive only been here 4 or 5 weeks so someone else might know something cheaper... good luck!
