I have spent 5 of the last 24 months in the PI. and I love the hospitality of it's people. If I could do something I would like to help. Don't know what I could do other than finding, falling in love with and marrying a filipina. Filipina's are affectionate, loving, famously beautiful and of course, speak english, but with varying degrees. It is my favorite country in Asia. Now if I could only find a job there with a decent salary like I make here, then I'd be SET. Ahhh, life in Paradise! Yes their are many problems there, you just have to look thru the jungle to see the turquoise-blue beaches.
Triva question: Which country is the 3rd largest English-Speaking country, rated by population, in the world. English is widely spoken and serves as a second official language.
Yup, you guessed it...The Philippines - Land of "Smiles and Isles", over 7,000 of the later and many millions of the former. Sure India has more people, but they all don't speak english.

Large as in size?
Canada is number one, followed by the USA, and third would be Australia.
Or do you mean as in people?
America is number one, the UK is number two, and (second language?) Then India has more English-speaking people than PI so India is my answer. |

Do you have any exact figures about the numbers of English-speakers in India? It IS widely spoken and its a very easy place to travel with just English, but I still got hte impression that it was mainly the better-off people who spoke it. |
