How's good ol' Tsukuba? I lived there for 2 years before moving a little further south. Beautiful city...I sure miss it. Sad

Sweetsee, good `hijack job` mate ......groups of eight (EIGHT?!); great for a good Dashing White Seargent or Highland Reel.....not conducive to effective group work methinks..............................................

No need to be sorry Sweetsee Wink but I honestly think 8 is way too big for group work; too much opportunity for others in the group to sit around and do nothing. I prefer to do group work with pairs and occasionally threes. What do others think? Good luck Sweetsee.....keep at it!! Gambare and all that.....

Hi King Kakipi,

Thank you. There is a misunderstanding. The group of 8, a.k.a. "gang-o-nine" one removed, is a group within my home room class of 21 formerly 22. For many reasons, all for which I am responsible, they hate me, according to them or one of them or some of them. What it is is a combination of adolescent mischief and inexperience on my part.
As for groups, I am currently usine 4's. I like it. Each student has different information and it eliminates the echo effect so annoying during information gap/survey/whatever activities. Plus, its livlier than pairs and creates more communication.
What kind of teaching are you doing King, and where?

Enjoy your friday evening,
s

sweetsee,
i had a really difficult thursday and friday at my school. ninth grade boys acting like wild animals when i was trying to conduct group speaking tests and friday a grade eight boy actually gave me a little poke in the bum during a co-teaching lesson.

their regular final exams are next week, but working with teens can sure be difficult. i'm a marshmellow, but i think students need to have consequences for bad stuff. also, as a foreign teacher, we need the students to help us.

have a nice weekend.

Hi Hamel,

Thanks! I like you.
I am giving tests this week. Very informal affair where they have 21 pictures of activities they studied and they have to write how well they can or cannot do them.
I have take a big step back from all of this and I am now cool with things.

Enjoy yourself,
S
