Hello,
I am considering a summer position with Beter English School in Zhong Shan, Guang Dong province. Does anyone have any insight into the workings of this school? Also, is 10000 RMB reasonable for a six week summer camp? Food and lodging are included, and my working hours are 24 per week, with 2 days off. Overtime comes in at 75rmb. Airfare is not included.
I know that Senor Boogie Woogie has said that nothing less than 100 RMB should be accepted, but I am not certain if the rules would be different in this area/for a camp. I also am not certain how much overtime there will be, so that may be a moot point.
I have 3 years experience (not in Asia, though) and solid references. I mention that as a reference frame for salary judgements... any help would be appreciated...
Sincerely,
Seor Booger Wooger (haha, joke from a cheeky newbie to be) |

I happen to know Better English Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, and I can certainly RECOMMEND it!
The school is a privately-owned training centre with excellent facilities in the downtown area. The building is modern and attractive. They have relatively good materials, including some textbooks printed by themselves.
I forgot the name of the lady in charge, but she is a very hospitable and generous person working in a bank. She and another woman own the school.
I had a discussion with three expat teachers - one from SIngapore, one from Canada and another one from the USA. All of them said they were very happy there.
Zhongshan is a new town on the west side of the Pearl RIver, half way between Shunde and Zhuhai. It is about 50 kms from Macau, and 100 kms from Guangzhou. YOu can reach it by boat from Hong Kong.
I do not know about the school's summer camp, but in your case I would say: go for it, the experience will reward you! |
