|
|
I left my home county (US) because when I looked around me I saw everyone was ignorant.
Then I went to another country (Korea) and everyone there was ignorant, too.
I stayed a while in England and dammit, again everyone was jus so ignorant I couldn't stand it.
I went to Czech and for a time I thought "Hey, this is cool. These people agree with me that everyone is ignorant." Then I rose above it and realized how ignorant it was to believe every other culture is ignorant.
Through the years I've also gained considerable expereince with other peoples and the result is always the same: Japanese - ignorant. Taiwanese - ignorant. Europeans - ignorant in a cultured kind of way. Arabs - unbelieveably ignorant.
So my question goes out to all of you: Where in the world can I find people who aren't ignornat?
Tounge-in-cheek replies only, please. Serious posters will be flamed. |

Pitcairn Island... it's population is so small that everyone knows everyone and everything about them. |

Nope. In order to prove you're not ignorant you have to accuse others of being ignorant. Since the tongans do not accuse others of being ignorant they are ignorant by default. They should at least make fun of American ignorance. That would make them less ignorant.
Rabbit Island is starting to look pretty good for me to start up my own school. How wonderful it would be to be able to teach without a bunch of ignorant students bothering me all the time. Maybe without students I'd be able to finally learn what teaching is really all about. My recruiter would only accept resumes submitted in Japanese Haiku. This would screen out most of the ignorant applicants unwilling follow the simple instructions in our job ads.
How much does a kilo of rabbit poison cost, by the way? |

Say, Glenski. I was just thinking about you in the post above.
How'd you like to be a teacher trainer at my school on rabbit island? The absence of students and teachers your concept of teaching would make more sense and fall right in line with our Rabbit Island English School's mission statement. Of course you have to submit your resume in Haiku. No exceptions. |

I think we've been barking up the wrong tree here.
There is a difference between being ignorant and not being conscious. It's consciousness that we should be inculcating. Some folks are ignorant because they are too poor to be able to interact with a sufficient number of different folks and places. In Latin America many fall into that category. They can still be conscious. And many are.
In places like the US there is no excuse for ignorance--but there is a reason: folks from the US, in the majority, think they are the only people who matter and that no country apart from the US matters. They are both ignorant and unconscious.
The unconscious is a realm populated by unrealized desires, bogey men and things that go bump in the night. When you live there your mode of life is that of fear. |

I thought this was NOT supposed to be serious (or even half-serious). You don't have a clue what my "concept of teaching" is.
Back to the humorous...
Here is what Robert E. Heilein has to say about ignorance. I like it.
Stupidity cannot be cured with money, or through education, or by legislation. Stupidity is not a sin, the victim can't help being stupid. But stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death, there is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity. |
