Wow, what a total cunt.....seriously, well done, you're amongst the biggest and best.

There are a lot of jerks who spend too much time berating others for merely expressing ideas on this forum. We call such people trolls.

So the events of 9/11 (or its aftermath) make you happy? Or am I missing something?

No prob, dialectic. The syntax of that sentence was clear as a bell -- in perfect Thai English.

Sorry, I haven't taken the time to go back and read through all the posts on this thread, so I don't know if this question has been answered, but . . .

If there's a higher percentage of homosexuals in TEFL than in most other careers/professions, what are the reasons for that? Any thoughts and opinions?

Mr. De Bloc,

What a rediculous question Laughing Laughing

i mean, what do you mean by most other professions......... oil well drilling, nightclub bouncer, cabin crew, hairdressers???

horticulture, dressmaking, firefighting, stand up comics???

if you're looking for a qualified answer on that one then you're pretty much certain to get load of boll#%ks instead.

or maybe that's what you're after Wink
who knows?

Obviously, from you I've gotten a load of b o l l o c k s instead. I was looking for a serious answer. Since you weren't capable of providing one, then why didn't you just refrain from responding instead of providing a rude and ignorant response?

I was thinking more along the lines of some possible answers such as that those involved in EFL -- employers, students, co-workers -- might be generally more tolerant of alternate lifestyles than those involved in other careers, or . . . I don't know. That's why I asked.

Wow - this thread is still going?

Ben Round de Bloc...

There were a few interesting replies, hidden like needles among the proverbial haystack of homophobia, accusations of homophobia, chit-chat and the like...

This is how I understand it... As a possible hypothesis:

There simply are more homosexuals involved in ELT (of both the gay and lesbian variety) as people of such inclination are often, but not always, less likely to take the traditional "settle down and start a family" route. ELT has never scored top marks for such a lifestyle - thus it fits.

We had a little back and forth on the Mexico thread about this "ben-round...". It's no deep dark secret that gays have always been a large portion of those that travel outside their home country. What fascinates me are the number of still in the closet types who take up foreign teaching as an escape from their home environment. When I first came to Mexico, I had the unhappy experience of sharing an apt (provided by the employer) with a very closeted guy, who seemed to be "on the lam" from himself. He scared the hell out of me (I was replacing a teacher who left after two weeks... and I suspect was molested by the guy). I've avoided the closet-cases ever since.

I can understand those who keep their sexuality somewhat private from their employers and students, especially in cultues where "gay" has more negaitve connotations, but the people in denial are sometimes dangerous.
