Just a general inquiry, Has anyone been contacted by the EMB HK regarding the advertised Advisory Teacher position which had an application closing date of 9/17/04. OR Has anyone been contacted yet by the EMB for the Primary NET jobs which had an application closing deadline of 10/29/04. If you have been contacted by the EMB, could you please give me some information regarding your situation.
Thanks. |

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a speedy reply from the EMB.
I have heard that half of the people recruited from Western Australia did not take up their offers of employment because the EMB/Hong Kong schools were so slack in responding to them or sending out contracts that they found other employment.
Nothing gets done in Hong Kong until it absolutely has to be done. |

There have been 40 NETs who have left since August. 20 of these have been AT's! Tha advisory teacher scheme is set up by the EMB to weed out the "bad NETs" in schools. Anyone considering a job as an AT should think very, very carefully about whether they would enjoy such a role.

I wasn't aware that the AT's role was to "weed out bad NETS"
I thought they were supposed to be supporting the NETS and the NET scheme. Perhaps I am naive. How did you come across this information?

I am a Secondary NET and have had dealings with the ATT. Believe me, this unit isn't set up to help NETs. |

The AT role is not to weed out bad NET teachers at least not publicly. But it has to be said that a significant number of EMB NETs feel very uncomfortable about the role of the ATs and their close relationship with the EMB. This was evident by the furor the AT issue caused in NESTA. Of course many EMB NETs also find NESTA to be irrelevant and nothing but the EMBs lap dog.
Once youve been in HK for awhile you realize that you can trust no one. Divide and conquer seems to be the labour management policy of the EMB so perhaps NETteacher is correct. Some more info would be good from you NETteacher (if it is safe to supply it) so that we can tell if this is just another rumor or has some truth to it.
A side note: with the rumor that 40 EMB NETs (20 NETs and 20 ATs) have left the scheme since September can the EMB afford to weed out any more NETs? |

I have had nothing but continuous support from my AT. Anyways, hmm... There are not enough NETS, so, lets take a group of them and employ them as ATs and then use them as spys to weed out the 'bad NETS'...anyone see any problems with this theory? Although, it is the EMB, so I wouldn't be surprised. |
